I'm sure this has been asked before but I haven't seen it--so let's hear it: your favorite ball of all time! It can be a penta or even a balata ball if you think those were the best you've played. Tell us what ball it is and its characteristics that made it so good.

I currently do not have one because I've only gotten to the point where I am consistent enough to observe different ball characteristics; so this is a fun inquiry/attempt to find about about some excellent golf balls!

Precept MC 392 / MC Spin. Soft covered, solid core ball that spun and stopped easily but was really inexpensive. Second vote would be for the Precept U-Tri Tour -- $30 ball that was more durable than the proV1 and performed just as well (if not better). I think they must have been trying to build market shart by offering good balls for less money.

Too bad Precept realized they could make a lot more money by simply charging more -- if you price a golf ball at $40 a dozen, people will assume it's much better than a $30 ball and actually buy more! Changed the name to Bridgestone and they were off and running.

All time greatest legendary status----Titleist Tour Balata. Wow did this ball spin.
Best ball imo today-Pro V1 x.

Strata Tour Ultimate! I just loved that ball... I remember gaining 10 yards on each club and the added spin on the greens.. They were my first premium ball when I was 13-14 I think!

actually... this brought back a memory. I guess the ball that I remember performing the best for me EVER (even if I was too young to know the difference) was the Nike One platinum. I was also 13 or 14 and I remember playing golf with my dad and uncles in northern MI. One of my uncles was a Nike rep and he brought a ton of the platiums for everyone to try. I remember gaining 10-15 yds on every club and for the first time ever, I was sucking balls back 4-5 feet on the green haha threw my adolescent game off a lot--but I thought it was cool.

Maxfli Revolution!!! with the blue writing. I think they had a harder one with black writing. That WAS the best ball EVER!!!

I'll never forget the 1998 PGA Show. I was in the Titleist booth and one of their ball engineers decided to strike up a conversation with me by asking what kind of ball do I play. "Strata Tour Professional" I replied. He was shocked. When he asked me to explain I answered that Multi piece golf balls were the future in golf because of the drivers getting bigger and bigger.

He retorted that wound balls would always be superior because the drivers were getting bigger and bigger therefore they would be able to control a high spin ball.

He finished the conversation by claiming that Titleist would never make a urethane Multi layer golf ball. I wish I could remember dudes name.

Mine was the original circa mid/late 90's Precept Extra Spin. Loved those things. They were reasonably priced and got those little curly q's from the wedges.

Also, loved the Professional 90

Further back the Maxfli HT was a great ball too in it's time.

believe it or not- the original pinnacle . hottest ball of the 70,s great distance and lively feel. way better than the top flite . putted way better than titleist wound . second fav-the spalding tour edition of the 80,s. greg norman won a few with this ball. one of the only balls i could tell the difference using. wasnt on the market for long .

I really love the Srixon ZUR-C though.

Nike One Black from 2008. Black and red ring packaging. It was a 3 piece with a softer covered. First generation of power transfer mantle layer technology, I buy as many as I can find these days!

I agree with back in the day the Ultra Tour Balata 90 was a bad as ball.

I love the Penta just not the price tag..so e6 it is

All the above are/were dandy golf balls, but I have to put a plug in for the original Maxfli A10. That and the first Maxfli Revolution took the cake.

+1 on the Maxfli Revolution Multi layer Tour.
They came in both 90 and 100 compression, so you had a choice as to feel, but they both performed the same as far as spin.
Next best was the TM TP Red w/ ldp
