Am i long drive material?

i was just wondering if anyone thinks i could be a good longdriver

 

im not sure of my actual swing speed but i can get the speed stick to 128 so im guessing its higher than that with an actual club

 

ive been using my brothers 44 inch cobra driver and i can hit that thing over 300 alot of the time

 

at high school team tryouts i hit drives of 343 on the first hole 336 on the 4th and had about 6 drives over 310 that day

 

i have a nice high ball flight and ive heard carry is very good in long driving

 

i was just wondering if it would be a good idea to get into it or not to waste my money (because its pretty expensive)

 

and if anyone is selling longdrive clubs for the right price for a jobless (will get one soon) 15 year old pm me :beach:

numbers look good, you are still young so they could only get better right...enter some regional small time contest and see if you can qualify for the next round.

For anyone who doesn't know Ian is my "little" Brother. And I have been telling him that whole ganster act was a joke atleast he listened to someone.

 

And I must say he can flat out pound a ball, he is a ton longer then I am. I get it out there ussually about 260-270 not long but Ian is probably 40 yards by that if he keeps it in play.

 

He isn't lying about a no short game though, he can't get out of a wet paper bag. Where as I can get up and down in a hurricane... backwards.... at night. LOL (that was an old quote about my current Boss I find to be funny)

At 15 years old you have plenty of time to develop into a longdriver if thats the route you want to take. You can try qualifying in the junior division next year as the season is over except for the finals. You will have to COMPLETELY dedicate yourself as these kids are hitting it just as long as the open divisions. As far as equiptment goes, it takes alot of testing to find the right combo for you, alot of different ld shafts and heads to chose from, don't just buy just to have because it may not work for you. Give me/us some specs of your swing and maybe I can help you out further.

alright well as far as specs go

 

i have a 115 average swing speed with my driver (44 inches)

i can swing it to 129

i have a fairly quick tempo

high lanch

a bit more spin then i would like but dont have an exact number

not a bad start in terms of ss to build on, but your avg ss has to get to 129 and higher in order to be competitive in LD. In terms of too much spin coming off the driver, maybe it's time to look at a different shaft for your driver. A x or xx flex shaft to start off with until you build up ss. I would also like to see your launch angle, spin rate, ball speed, smash factor, off line hits in yardage ex. 35yds to right, 56yds to left, etc. to help you out a little bit better in the route to go into. If people question your ability, don't take it as a negitive but use it as a motivation for improvement, and if you go into these qualifiers, look to see what equiptment others are using, and if you just happen to not be performing at your best, don't give up because you WILL have more failures than wins or qualifying in this sport especially when you just miss out by inches.

At 15 the first thing you have to decide is wether you want to break 70 or be a long drive guy...the two skills are not compatible. There are 10 guys at my local municipal that could beat the crap out of the folks who are currently outdriving you.

 

If you want to do the whole long drive thin, that's cool, but say goodbye to competitive golf.

These numbers aren't bad but you would have to get your ss up to around 135-145 and ball speed to 200mph+ to be competitive in LD. I've noticed that the harder you swing the more dispersion you have which could easily be fixed with a stiffer shaft and that would also help out your launch angle which should be 12-14*. spin rate at 2200-2400rpm's. nearfall152 said you cant play competitive golf of you do LD, but there are many LDr's that can play to scratch or better. David Mobley plays on Nationwide tour when he gets the chance, Brian Pavlett is scratch, Zubak is +2, just to name a few, you just have to develop a LD driver swing and a course driver swing, and not to play your LD drivers when your trying to score. At 15 years old you have time to hit the gym and build up your core muscles and do speed training for clubhead speed. IMO if you want it bad enough you would work on it, and if LD doesn't work out for you these are good PGA #'s. and practice on your short game. Drivers to look at are SMT, BANG, COBRA, KRANK, ALPHA. Shafts to look for are AccuFLEX LD series, PENLEY, GRAMAN, just to name a few. It took me 4yrs to find something that works for me but I am always trying to find that something extra to stay in the game.

well ive been lifting alot lately and ive been forgetting about my stretches so for the first few days my swing speed on the speed stick was 80mph max it was actually kinda funny my little sister was swing faster them me but i took a few swings with the driver today and its feeling lighter and easier to swing so maybe the ss will be going up

DON'T FORGET TO STRETCH! It is very important to be flexable, brawn can only go so far, it also helps reduce the chance of injury! Keep it up!

 

P.S. get rid of the speed stick, has no purpose, you can tell if your swinging faster, not accurate anyway.

The shinny has the pro ld in it now and is basically new, less then 10 hits. And the indio has the v2 , but has been used for about 4 months.

Ian, you are still young and have plenty of time and I disagree with the one that says you can't play golf and do long drive at the same time. I play pretty good golf and do compete in longdrive. Keep trying and

you will have to get your swing speed up to 145 and the ball spin down to about 2400 and your smash factor

close to 1.5. How do I know because my swing speed is 120 and I am 58 years old and 5ft 7in tall 160 pounds and I carry the ball from 285-300. Good luck

lol - same here, I'm 15 and I've only ever put a handful of drives passed the 300 metre, I think that's around 330 yrds for u americans. That was with a tail wind!! Good luck Ian on which ever game you choose.

Do you think with training and a longer driver I can get my swing speed in the high 130's? I already know i have the launch angle to do long drive contests, just need to work on the spin rate. I launch them consistantly at 17*-18*.

comprar I had the same problem until I started getting enough protein... if u want to gain muscle mass I'd go by the rule of thumb of a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight.
