to cut a long story short

i won club championships last year, noticed whilst i had the trophy that they never put my name on it, didnt bother me that much, presumed it would be put on at the next presentation night

well last night was our presentation, i wasnt there because im away at uni, and the 2011 winners name is on there, as is the 2009 winner, but not mine.

Felt pretty damn angry, they can get a new band and do all the names again which isnt that hard, just feel like its the principle of them not putting my name on the trophy.

 

obviously im gonna ring them up and ask why im not on there, any other ideas cus im pretty annoyed about this.

I'm sure it's just an honest miss. My buddy who was club champ a coupleyears ago had his name misspelled on the plaque. I don't think they did it intentionally, just happened. Cal the pro...if you dont get a great response, call someone on the Board or the club president. I'm sure they will get it right. And congrats!!

No point in getting angry (although I can see how you would)... Just raise it with someone you're friendly with on the board and get it fixed.

I'd ask them to keep your name off the trophy. Tell them to have "unknown" engraved where your name should go because you don't want people to know you played at such a bush league place.

But then again, I believe overreacting is always the best policy so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

To the OP: Get the Captain on the horn, or the Secretary or someone else with some clout at the club and with whom you're acquainted. Any man worth his salt will get it sorted out quick smart. It's a tardy mistake, really, but it can be sorted relatively easily.

agree with the Captain, Secretary chain of command thing. If you can't get any sense out of either it's pretty pointless asking the pro - they're usually not bothered unless there's a large cheque attached to the trophy.
From a unique standpoint though, you're in the driving seat - every trophy has more credibility if there's more history/story behind it. Your anomaly may go down in club folklore and make your name live on "beyond eternity" [Dr. Hfuhruhurr]

Okay, guys, here is what may have happened. I have been in the business for 25 years, and have seen this happen before. Yes, you should just call the pro and see what the response is. What I have seen happen, of course not with my top-notch staff, is that they did not keep good records, forgot to put the name on the trophy, then realized it this year when the tournament began. None of them could remember who won from the previous year, and figured they would go ahead and put the 2011 winner on it, knowing that as soon as the 2010 champ saw it, he would call in, they would then have the information as to who won, and go out and get it re-engraved with the 2010 winner.


I know that sounds crazy, but it happens. The golf staff runs so many events at a busy club, that they tend to run together. They should, obviously, keep better records, but it does happen.

On my staff once, I took in an old wooden sign by the 9th green to have this beautiful stone sign made with our member-member champions listed. when I took it down to the company to make the stone sign, they threw away the sign that I took down. No big deal, right, wrong, It was the only record the club had of the past 20 years champions. We had to go back through newsletters and records. However, we were missing about 3 of the 20 winners. We went ahead and put up the sign with the missing years listed, but no champions. It did not take long for the members to see the beautiful new sign, and there missing name on the year they won. It was updated and complete by the end of that season.

Don't freak out, just give the pro a call. If that doesn't solve it, then freak out!

Speak to the head pro in a professional manner. There's nothing wrong with doing so. You deserve your name on it, as it is an accomplishment you are very proud of. I would not at this point take it too personally. It very well could have been an honest mistake.

The most important thing here is[b] how[/b] you address the pro, not as much what you say. If he ends up not accepting your request, you might not want to be there anyways.

Not like the US Open, where they have the engraver on site hovering over the trophy waiting for the final putt to drop... Happened to me too... still haven't put my name on it two years later... I don't really care that much, figure they'll get around to it since the other 41 names are all there. I get to look at the trophy just about every week and ask the guy who's supposed to get it engraved when he's going to get around to it... taking care of club business isn't his full time job and he buys me a drink every time I mention it. I figure the next set of board members will notice the last 2 names are absent. I have my permanent plaque on my wall at home engraved with my name. This years winner is also enjoying the free drink policy of the deficient board member so we're both happy he's busy with his real job... For the OP, someone in your club probably cares that the trophy is accurate, you just need to figure out who that is and keep bugging them, you should also negotiate a free beer every time you have to remind them...

One of my golfing buddies won our Club Championship back in May, 2011. His name still hasn't been put up on the wall after nearly 7 months. To say he is a little annoyed would be an understatement.

My only response to you is i wish i had that problem to deal with. The best i've ever done is winning the 1st flight.

Congrats on your win and hopefully they'll get the trophy fixed for you.
