unless you have an ///M model, it is pointless to get and wear one..and i won't include an M3 in that category..haha

M3 is by far the fastest M on a track. Not to mention very expensive new. Not sure how it wouldn't be included. The 1M is a fantastic car and a ton of fun to drive.

From a pure driving perspective I'd take an e30 or e36 M3 over any other BMW ever made.

I said on a track and as a pure driver. My daily driver is a E60 and have driven plenty of fast cars. Give me a f355 over an M5 or M6 any day. M6 is slowest car in its class and an R8 would blow it out of the water.

Hate to break it to you but on a road course a $10,000 E36 M3 would dust your dinan m5.

There are 2 camps of people. The BMW purists and the people who lease the latest and most expensive models to show off. M3/M5 are the true M's. I'm not sure about M5 but all you will ever see in touring car races are M3's and the 3 series chassis. So to say that the M3 shouldn't be in that category shows which camp you're in. You probably wouldn't know what an E30 M3 look like.

The Ring Taxi at the Nurburgring uses the E60 M5 and the new F10 M5 will destroy any E30/E36 on an open road course. E30/E36 is better for autocross and short tight road courses.

This coming from a former E36 M3 owner and current E92 335i owner that has raced (road course and autocross) with BMWCCA for 10 years. The fastest BMW's are usually the highly modded E46 M3's (AST shocks, camber plates, 18X10 wheels, 285 tires) and the E36 M3's modified similarly are 1-2 seconds slower a lap. But my supercharged Elise kills them all ;)

Elise is a ton of fun. I almost bought an Evora 2+2. I decided I want to keep my E60 and looking for the perfect F355. For whatever reason that has been my dream car for a long time. Not sure I'd track it though.

Not sure I'd track either to be honest but out of the 2 I'd pick the Evora. F355 is a maintenance nightmare already for street driving and start beating on it on track and it will add up very quickly. I'd save up a few more $ and get a 360 if you go the F car route. Gallardo's are also under 100 now.

355 is more enjoyable to drive than a 360 to me. 360 seems awkwardly wide to me from the drivers position. I know a 355 isn't cheap at all to maintain, but let's face it people don't buy F cars for rational reasons.

Not sure if you're making this judgement based on price tag, but if so that is not the right measure. The M3 is the M model with the most heritage and cred in terms of racing pedigree. I've had the pleasure of attending the M driving school in South Carolina twice, and drove the M3 (e92), M5 (e60) and M6 (e63). My favorite round the track was the M3, followed by the M5 and then M6. That said they were all great cars in their own right. The M6 left a lot to be desired interior-wise IMO, and we saw a glitch with the traction control a couple time in it which is partly why I put it last.

As of right now the current e92/90 M3 is really the quintessential M. I'm looking forward to driving the F10 M5 next month as it's numbers are very impressive, but which will be more fun round track we'll see.

didn't mean to steer this topic off track, just wanted to clarify potential misconception. Ti-cip, no harm done :)

to the OP, this isn't exactly what you're looking for but the motorsport apparel in online here:
http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductList.aspx?CategoryId=225

polos and other apparel are given/sold at a lot of driving and promo events by BMW and partner sponsors so the Bay would be another place to look.

credentials maybe,, but heritage?? the m6 was originally produced in 1983, m5 in '85 ans the m3 in '86. looks alone, the 2010 m6 is hands down awesome!!

depends on how you look at it. the M6 had a 16 year hiatus btwn the E24 and E63 and that doesn't convey heritage to me the way the M3's unbroken line does. BMW's decision to put the M5's V10 into 6 and call it a M6 had more to do with reviving a classic just to make money IMO. they'll be doing the same thing again in next year's M6 - but don't get me wrong as the Ms really are all great cars.
