Deep Milled Scotty & Bettinardi by Lamont

I'Ve been getting a bit bored with my gamer but not enough to wander to another putter. I sent E-mails to several of the custom putter people inquring about the deep mill process. I received quick responces from all of them.

I settled on letting Lamont Deep Mill my gamer and backup. I found Lamont to be very friendly, honest and organized. He sent me picture samples of different types of milling and let me choose my preference. His prices were also very fair. He completed the work and I had them both back in about 2 weeks. I was very pleased with his machining but will let you all be the judge. I only lost about 3 grams of headweight and it feels much softer but not so soft that it lost any of the solid feel.

I Caswelled and paintfilled this week, "and yes I am partial to orange and black, my first hot rod was a 1970 Mach 1 that was orange and black"

how did you get that black look to the putter

Sanded it with 120 then 240, cleaned with acetone, caswelled it 5 times while steel wooling and cleaning with acetone between caswell applications. It took a while with lots of patience but I am pleased.

Caswell stainless blackener gel is what I used. It's an water based acid gel that works very well but must be handled and used with care.

I have a clubfitting/golf shop and do alot of refinishing so I didn't need Lamont to do that part of it.

Yes, yours is stainless. The only place I know to get the Caswell products is online.

The liquid is far easier to controll the dark and work with as told to me by someone who did my putter in my avatar...gel is not.

I have not used the liquid but have used the gel 4 times and liked how it turned out.

Not quite finished with the Bettinardi BC4 but may have it done later this week. I had some problems with the Birchwood Casey Plum Brown so I stripped it all off and ordered the Caswell's for Carbon Steel.

For what it's worth, the gel is just as easy to use. I just finished an older TP Mills #9 with it and it turned out great. The first attempt was blotchy but the second time around I applied the gel to the steel wool and then scrubbed it into the club. It worked much better and is perfectly even now, no more blotchy look.

That was my practice club, now on to a couple SC Studio Select models...

I finally got the Bettinardi refinished. This is hand polished Carbon with deep milled face by Lamont. The grip is a perforated Kangaroo gripmaster, I was told bt the sales rep that this is a new style and what Geoff Ogilivy has on his clubs.
