Who still uses a 4 wood?

Last year a lot of hype about better to go with 4 wood. I went with 4 wood and found with the higher ball flight of 4 wood and the lower ball flight on my 3 hybrid, I didn't have enough gap between these two clubs. By not having 3 wood I missed the extra yards on the second shot on pars five and on those tight holes when needing to tee off with 3 wood. I went back to 3 wood and happy. Everyones game has different strong ponts and I have alway hit my fairway woods well so this work for me. I have seen the 4 wood really help those that have a little trouble with fairway woods. Mac

I game a 16.5 4 wood. I found I wasn't able to hit 15 degrees consistently off the deck, so now my set up is Driver, 4 wood, 3 hybrid @ 21 degrees. It's a bit of a gap, the 3-H goes about 190-200, so if it's further than that, it's the 4 wood or I lay up. At my regular course, I don't have too many 220 yard shots into greens, except maybe on one par 5.

I can definitely see an argument for dropping fairways all together in favor of a hybrid bag especially if you already have 2 or 3 hybrids replacing your long irons.
I carried a four wood for most of last season. No real complaints except I like to use my fairway off the tee about 1/2 the time for Par4s and Par5s and it was about 5-10 yards short of where I wanted to be. So I'm going back to a more 'traditional' 3w/5w combo this year. I'll keep the 4w though and may bag it and an extra wedge depending on the course I'm playing. It certainly offers options.

I've never carried a 3 wood that i used with any consistancy off the fairway........and only occasionally off the tee........My first 4 wood was the Callaway Warbird sole, back in the early-mid 90's? From then on it's been 4-wood only for me. i've had various ones, but at the moment it's a Ping G-15 16ish degree. Love that club.

One more thing I might add is that I've learned to reduce yardage off the tee with my driver instead of going to the fairway club. I've pretty well got down that little stinger shot with my driver. Depending how far down I grip, I can knock off 25-50 yards roughly.

Currently I use neither a 3 or 4 wood. I've tried many 3 woods and never quite get the consistancy I want. So for the past year I've been playing 2 hybrids, a 17* and 19* Adams A7. It's odd cus since they are so close in loft they fill my gaps perfectly. I do have a 16* Adams 4060 3 wood coming so hopefully that give replaces my 17* A7. I'm looking to go 16* wood and 20* hybrid so I can drop my 3 iron and add another wedge.

Putting a v steel back in my bag for the first time since 2007, and i am really excited about it. My dad still plays my 3 and 5 woods, and he loves them. I even got him a 7 wood for Christmas a few years ago. I have been on the hunt for a v steel 4 wood off and on forever. I am just waiting to put the kia'li in it, and it should be amazing. took dad's 5 wood out this weekend, and i am still really impressed with v steel woods. Still the best i've ever played. Great off the deck and tee. He has a prolaunch blue with axis in his 5 wood, so i think the shaft with a kia'li will be awesome.

I am going Rapture v2, V steel 4 wood, and idea pro 20 at the top of my bag. Pretty solid set up i think. Had the idea pro since August 2010, and it is the best i've ever played too. I am really happy with my entire bag right now.

I think a previous poster made a good point, the number of the club doesn't matter (especially today). I carry a Titleist 910 fD wood which is 15 degrees and a 910H hybrid which is 19 degrees. What is great about these two clubs is that I can adjust the loft if I need to. I currently play the 19 degree .75 degrees strong and I leave the 15 alone. Just some info to consider. I know shaft length comes into play, however for golfers struggling with loft gap issues this is cool deal.

Driver, 4W, 3H (19), 3H (21).

Love the 4W when I really need to get it in play, like on short (<340 yard) par 4s, or when I don't want to drive it through a dog leg.

Need to get better off the deck with it.

I know bubba watson and alvaro quiros use 4 woods, they hit their 4 woods as far as a regular guys 3 wood though. i'm not a fan of the 4 wood though - to big of a yardage gap between driver. It's better to replace 4 wood with like 2 hybrid or strong lofted 3 hybrid. You can work a hybrid better and the right one will go just as far.

I have Titleist 904f fairways in 13 and 17 degrees. I have found that I can hit a strong 3 wood off the deck, but conditions need to be optimal to hit the 13 degree off the deck (in the fairway and fairly level lie). The 17 degree 4 wood is good for long par 3s and for longer shots out of the rough. That being said adding the extra wedge in place of strong 13 is something that I am thinking about. I think it comes down to what one thinks will be most beneficial to your game and it may be something that one would change depending on the course or conditions.

I just bought a cb3 16.5 off the bst. I'm coming from a ping g15 15.5 and before that a 909f2 13.5.

I'm going four wood because 1) i need a little extra loft to get the height i want from a second shot in to a par five, and 2) when i hit less than driver off the tee i expect to hit the fairway most of the time. I only hit 3/4 wood when i'm trying to get on in two and off the tee when i need to hit it straight. I'm counting on this four wood to help make both of those easier.

My 4 wood (Rapture V2 with JavlnFx M7) is my favourite club ever.

For a while I took it out of my bag and replaced it with a 910F 3 wood, but soon realised the terrible mistake I had made.
