Clubs of Kingwood

Hi, my wife and I recently moved back to the Houston area and are looking for a club to join. We live in Houston Heights so there aren't any (or any that are affordable) near us. Currently am looking into joining out at Kingwood. Seems like a pretty good deal with a $100 initiation and dues of $285 a month. Curious if anybody has any experience with the club and how they would rate the course, facilities, services, etc. Also, curious as to how crowded it is out there.

My experience there was years (and I do mean years) ago as far as being a member. I really enjoyed it. The courses I have played there in the last couple of years are, the Island, Marsh, and Deerwood. All of them were in excellent shape. I would still be a member there today if it were not for the fact that I live on the total opposite side of town from Kingwood.
What is included in the membership you are looking into? Would you have access to all 5 courses there?

Thanks for the reply. My biggest concern is that I currently live in the Heights so it would be about a 35 minute commute or so for me to get up there. There don't appear to be many affordable country clubs much closer though. Included in the membership is access to the four Kingwood courses (except Deerwood), Falcon Point, April Sound in Conroe, along with a couple other clubs. Also, included in the Downtown Club where I am already a member and pay $110 a month to workout. So really I am getting access to all of the country clubs and golf for only another $175 a month. It also includes Tennis, pool, etc. at the Country Club.

I don't not think you'll find a better deal than Kingwood, especially with the Downtown Club included since you're already paying that. You must be under 40, because I heard the over 40 m/ship is around $500 now. I was a member @ KW from 04 to 08, really enjoyed it, 4 nice courses to play, great CC, pool, ect., the staff, as well as members are nice. They have a game every Sat., called the dogfight, always had 25-40 members playing (Stableford game) that gave you a chance to meet new people.
Only negative, and its not that bad, but is does get crowded on the weekends, I don't know the memebership # there, but on the weekends be prepared for some waiting. I live in KW, member of Walden Lake Houston, its a great course, smaller membership (around 220 I believe), easier to get a t-time and get around the course but doesn't have near the amenities KW does.
KW always keeps their courses in good shape, you can't go wrong, and with out traffic, you should be able to make it out here in less than 30 from the Heights.

You need to play the Forest next time, that's actually my favorite. To get Deerwood included, its quite a bit more expensive, especially on the intitation, keeps Deerwood as the more "elite" course to play, it's nice, but not much different than the others. You do still get to use Deerwood's club,, they have a excellent Brunch on the weekend or alittle more quiet dinner than at the KW club.

I've played the Forest course before...just not in the last couple of years. I would agree, out of all the courses there, the Forest course is my favorite. Just seems like every time I play Kingwood as a guest or in a charity event, we never play it.
