Mizuno and the mighty MP-59 coverage from the PGA Show.

Just ordered my 59's in GS 95R 1/2 inch 3 degrees up, can't wait to try these beautiful clubs out! I did the Mizuno shaft fitting and at 68 mph hitting a 6 iron it recommended the GS 95R or the NS pro 950 for me. I immediately picked up 4-5 mph after using the GS 95 without losing any control, great shaft. I was consistently hitting 5-15 yard draws off the toe and still getting fair distance with the 6 iron, carrying it 150-155. My normal 6 iron carry distance with a solid strike is 163-168 yards, going up 3 degrees should really help in hitting them more solid and gaining a few yards, but again, for hitting them slightly off the toe, my miss, I could live with that 6 iron distance.

I've played cast clubs my whole life currently playing to a 8 handicap, recently switching over from Black Pearl CG16's; the difference is night and day. The CG 16's are supposed to be more forgiving with the wide sole and all, but after demoing the 59's I've found them easier to hit. I also demoed the 53's but surprisingly they were harder to hit for me then the 59's. I think what it comes down to is the way the 59's cover the ball, they just look cleaner to my eye then the 53's. I also demoed the 63's, liked them, wanted them but I didn't let my ego win. The 59's were a tad more forgiving for me and slightly heavier which I liked. I do feel like the feel is slightly better in the 63's, the 59's when flushed do have a slight clicking sound compared to the 63's; so minimal though, not a deal breaker for me at all.

I waited way to long in buying a set of Mizuno Irons, but have a feeling I may have just bought a set of iconic irons that will be making me a stoked golfer for a very long time!

Great choise; They're such a solid & somehow forgiving iron that looks great too!!! Lets hear some feedback after you play them.I don't think that you'll be dissappointed- Hopefully they arrive soon.

The general thinking seems, for most people, to be that the 53s are a little more forgiving. With the cavity back and larger head, I can see why that might be. But for those who have hit both enough to have a feel, why specifically, do you find one to be better or worse, more or less forgiving, greater or lesser feel, than the other?

[/quote]In my case the 59's were more forgiving for my swing, surprised me for sure. Hitting indoors into a net with my correct shaft but with a lie angle that was off by 3 degrees, I consistently hit shots off the toe and the 53's experienced the most distance loss of the 3 irons I demoed; 63, 53, and MP 59. My launch angle and ball speed were best with the 59's. I believe the titanium insert or metal that is blended into the forging process makes the 59's a tad more forgiving on off center strikes and just generally longer then the 63 or 53 irons.

The feel or the weight of the club was real important for me too. With my light shaft, the GS95 300 Reg., the 59 head felt best, might not be for others who's shafts will be different, but the 63 and 53 heads felt a tad light on my backswing which I didn't like.

Lastly, go thru the Mizuno fitting process, it's free and you'l get the correct shaft fitted for you. In my case I was playing the wrong shaft for a while, 6.0 project X. Once you get the correct shaft you can then try out the different heads simply by screwing them on with an allen wrench which they provide. I was really impressed how easy the fitting process was, didn't take long at all. I would suggest hitting at least 10-15 shots with each head, that's what I did; you'll find out right away what works best for you. GOOD LUCK!
