Spencer Levin--that is one impressive round. -10 from someone who is not considered very long off the tee. Heck he even uses DGS300 shafts in his irons. I switched to a belly putter because of Spencer so been kind of following him ever since. There's hope for us "short knockers" yet. :D

C'mon, where are all of the people who love golf without Tiger and are really excited to see how some of the other guys play this year. Where are the ones who insist that the PGA Tour doesn't need Tiger.

Interesting that the tournament with Tiger has a thread that's 23 pages long, and this one has less than 10 responses.

It's not just Tiger though, a bunch of other top players are in Abu Dhabi. He played 2 rounds with #1 ranked Luke and 3 rounds with youngster phenom Rory, so that adds even more interest to the tournament. San Diego leaderboard looks like crap by comparison.

Because all the top players are in Abu Dhabi. The highest ranked player at the top of the leaderboard is...Sang-Moon Bae perhaps?
[/quote]

I think it's Bill Haas at #26.

Kyle Stanly is starting to run away with it, not bad for #150 in the world.

It has nothing to do with rankings. It's been proven that only one person in golf matters. The four majors will always generate interest, but outside of that, there's tournaments with tiger, and those that don't have tiger.

you guys can now go back to discussing the farmers insurance open.

That's a very 'Tiger fanboy' way of looking at it. I suppose when Tiger retires all the golf courses in the world will be bulldozed and replaced with high rise apartment blocks?

Abu Dhabi has been a big event for a number of years, Tiger playing there this year is an added bonus.

So you're telling me that if tiger was at torrey this week, then the golf channel would change their programming to show rory and luke in the first round? and that the torrey pines thread would have 7 posts? Golf will exist when tiger retires, but until that time there are tournaments with tiger and those without.

The Golf Channel favours its programming towards what will give them the best viewing figures. In America, Woods is immensely popular, and people watch sometimes only for Woods. As a result, Woods takes up a huge amount of their coverage.

In the Rest of the World, Europe in particular, we have been complaining for years at the saturation coverage of Tiger, and whilst we like to see him play, we also want to see the rest of the field.

In Europe, channels would make the effort to show Mcilroy and Donald, and most people would prefer to watch that over Woods. Whereas in America (where TGC gets its' audience) they wouldn't have much interest.

Just want to say that the "college spirit day" thing was one of the lamest ideas ever. Is this where we're at now in golf? Trying to siphon the passion of college athletics to generate interest and marketing opportunities? The future of the Tour is not looking good if we need to resort to "Wear Your Team Colors" day and try to pass it off as being connected to a vague university reference in the title sponsor's commercial.

Torrey Pines and San Diego must be embarrassed about what this tournament has become. Tiger is over in the Middle East, Phil couldn't care less about these early tournaments as long as he peaks for Augusta and probably rolls up to the first tee after scarfing a few cheeseburgers and not hitting a single range ball, and they've got a bunch of no-names at the top of the leader-board.

They need to just cut their losses and go back to being "The San Diego Open." Even if it wasn't on T.V., it would be more dignified than the circus-like "Farmers Insurance Open" with "Team Colors Day" and tacky American flags on the pins in a shameless attempt to draw interest from veterans.

This is the Tim Finchem era in full flower. Notice how CBS references the FedEx Cup standings to show how a player has performed recently? Just an excuse to plaster that company's name on the screen.

It's disgusting. But that's the American culture for you. Finchem and Co. are just marching along in lockstep.

Pretty impressive length. Hit 7 iron on 2nd shot on par 5 13th. 3 wood on 17th went 300+. Best part is his putting. I'll be shocked if he doesn't win today the way he strikes the ball.
