I've played Ping irons for years but dont understand all the hype about the i20 irons. IMO they are hideous, thick topline. lots of offset and a cheap plasticky looking cavity insert,. IMO a real downgrade in looks from both the i5 and i15 irons.
The topline is thick but I'll be honest..I like the bar inset more than the badge insert as far as looks go. But that's just my preference...

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and
a hideous grip

Great to see a Houstonian playing at Memorial Park. I live in D.C but I was born and raised in Houston. How is the course fairing these days? I seem to remember that Herman lost a lot of trees not to long ago during one of the storms, I don't think last years drought helped either. Hopefully Memo faired better. The clubs look great, be sure to give an update when the honeymoon is over.

Memo got hit really hard by the drought. I came back home for a couple weeks around Christmas and got a chance to play. It was shocking. TONS of pine trees removed and many were dead. You know all of those big pines down the left side of the 18th fairway? Gone.

Memorial Park has to have lost at least half of its trees from the hurricane and this summer's drought. :black eye:

It's very sad, but new trees are being planted by the thousands.

Call me crazy, but these look a lot like updated G2's with less ofset and a smaller cavity weight. Nothing wrong with it, just an observation. (disregard the hiloft 4 iron)
The G2s are better compared to the G20s.

Totally missed notification here, my bad. :russian_roulette:

I'll be posting a full update at the end of the month. I'd had some other obligations that required my attention.

Having played a few rounds now, I can honestly say I like these irons. Not so much from a feel perspective, although feel is not as bad as I was expecting having hit i15s, but more from a 'playability' point of view. My GIRs have significantly increased, and my misses are much closer to the short stuff. Once I adjusted for the increased right to left ball flight that is...

The longer irons are still a work in progress, as my hands are very active in the hitting area and my misses with the long irons are starting left and continuing left. Divot is towards the target or slightly right. I suspect the offset, as my previous irons didn't have near as much. Could all be between my ears though. ;)

The short irons also draw more than I am used to with my standard swing, and they do not appear to spin the ball as much on approaches. Normally (old S57s w/C Tapers) I would pull back a ProV1x a yard or so, but with these irons they tend to release about the same or a little more. Maybe I can go back to a ProV1 to get some of the spin back.

I am also going to try putting some KBS Tour shafts in these things and see how that affects this extra draw and lack of spin on approaches. I've heard the CFS shafts play a little soft to flex, and I came from CTapers that I was able to play quite well, even though I though the S flex was a little too stiff for me.

I'm also suffering from a move to Colorado, and my distances are all screwed up. Not sure if this really affects anything other than my brain though. ;)

Note to older guys: Move up here. My iron distances are like they were 10 years ago! :D

Overall though, I am very satisfied with my purchase of these irons. Once I get everything dialed in, I suspect these will stay in the bag for some time.

Primary bag:
Titleist 913 D3 8.5
Titleist 915Fd 13.5
Titleist 913h 17
Mizuno MP-18 4-PW
Scratch wedges 50, 55, and 60
Bettinardi mid-shank putter

Backup bag:
Ping G400 9
Ping G30 fw 13
Ping G30 hybrid 19
Ping iBlade 4-PW power spec
Macgregor VIP wedges 51, 56, and 60
Bettinardi mid-shank putter

Got a set of i20s after trying two sets of AP2s and a set of Mizuno MP68s. My GIR went up BIG TIME and these are long! At least (1) club longer than either set before. I was concerned over what I read about toplines and offset but was pleasantly surprised to find out I could work these irons almost as easy as my MP68s. On my bad days - these irons keep my round going. VERY forgiving without losing distance. All that plus the ability to work the ball both ways when my swing is 'on'. :)

As for asthetics this is the best looking set of cavity irons PING has released in a long time. I was never a fan of the i10/i15. Didn't like the big emblem or whatever in the cavity. The black cavity looks more like the classic look of the post Eye2 irons. Feel and sound are both awesome. I was worried about the feel being harsh after my MP68s but it ends up I had nothing to worry about. The feel is great with positive feedback but not harsh at all.

I ended up going with DG X100s (Soft Stepped Once - per the Mizzy fitting system) and couldn't be happier. If anyone is looking at giving them a try I say go for it. :)

I dont know why there are so many people complaining about the offset. Coming from blades i can imagine, but im coming from burner 2.0 and if you compare offset of both 3i's you'll notice much more from the TM than the Ping

I'll be posting a full update at the end of the month. I'd had some other obligations that required my attention.

Update?

My update is I had a bit of a health issue that sidelined me and took my feeble mind off track from this. Not an excuse, just the facts.

My bad, all apologies. :hi:

The above also forced me to miss the Anser Introduction, which was nicely covered by Ben and Wyatt.

But the i20s joined me across the pond to play some courses in the London area last Fall. We played Princes, Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St. Georges, Rye, Walton Heath, Sunningdale, and Queenwood.

The i20s posted a tidy (for me) 76 at Royal St. Georges and came out of the trip looking great. Three of our foursome bagged i20s over there, all with happy results.

Royal St. Georges, i20 irons/woods, and an excellent caddie made for a memorable round.

The surprise for me has been my easy adjustment to the amiable CFS shafts. Take a chance on these.

And friendly is a good word for these i20s. The transition from my '08 AP2s was easy, outside of adjusting my yardages up ~8 yards.

They neither dig too much on England's softer inland parkland courses nor deflect off the firm fairways of links golf in and about Sandwich/Deal coast and over to Rye.

This shaft & head combo blesses longer irons with a nicely higher flight that gives me a better chance to hold a green.

Around the greens my only adjustment has been to the occasional hot face jumpers on a chip & run. You can tell the face is doing some work for you.

But, alas, the ho'ness in me beckoned -- I thought I'd shaken that -- and my curiosity was piqued by the Anser line.

I missed the trip, so these would have to come at my own expense, but .... awww, heck I'm toast. smiley-shocked035.gif

I bit the not inconsiderable bullet and ordered a complete Anser + Gorge Tour wedge bag.

I'll be comparing them to the i20s as I rebuild my swing from the ground up. golf.gif

Please keep us updated on the I20 vs Anser battle. I have both sets as well and keep going back and forth between the two. Interested in seeing if I am not the only one with this problem.

I'm still in process of the Anser Forged review, but must say they are better than I expected in a number of areas. mrgreen.gif

Got some great advice on this forum in the past so wanted to post my 2 cents: Recently got fitted for a set of ping i20's and have used them now for about a month and have been very impressed. I was gaming a set of adams idea with hybrids before but outgrew them as my game improved (finally playing more consistently). Tried a bunch of other options including Mizuon JPX, Rocketbladez, Ping g20, and Adams CMB. Nothing could compete with the feel, workability and overall performance of these clubs. They are feel great with a solid hit and are surprisingly forgiving. The stock CFS shaft (I got fit it in stiff) is also solid. I ended up getting fitted for orange dot, -1/4". I have always had a bit of an issue with hooking the ball and these clubs have completely eliminated that issue. If anything, I hit a nice solid straight shot with workable draw or fade. They are not particularly longer than any other club I tried but certainly had them all beat in the dispersion catagory. At any rate, am loving these clubs and look forward to gaming them this season.
