Let's hear it...

First off, I am a Callaway driver guy. I am playing the Titanium 454 driver now and love it. I was playing a 2004 ERC Fusion. The Fusion is a very good driver but I could never quite get used to the lack of feedback (feel and sound) compared to previous Callaway drivers. The 454 gives you all the feedback you could want. It is forgiving to the point that I never worry about where the driver is going when I tee off. The only word of caution I have is that it is a little easy to get out in front of. A little range time should over come that though. Highly recommend it.....

I rated this as 4 Stars, mainly b/c I don't believe there is truely anything that is the "Best" or 5-Stars, unless you are looking at the Heavenwood :cheesy:

This is a great driver. Over the past year I have owned 3 Different Callaway Drivers; Great Big Bertha II, Great Big Bertha II 415, and the Big Bertha 454. These are all fantastic drivers. The major benefit to this driver over the others is that it seems more forgiving. I really don't think that it has much of an advantage on distance vs the GBB II's, I am just more consistent with it.

Definately a purchase that does not lead to buyers remorse. Go demo one today :clapping:

Thanks,

I know that this driver isn't considered "highly desirable" by many of the tour equipment snobs, etc., but guess what? It's still a great, great stick -- especially considering the price you can get one for now that the FT-3 has been released.

IMHO, if you get the right shaft installed for your game, you can't go wrong with this club. It is MORE than sufficient for the majority of the players out there... straight as anything I've hit, and nearly as long.

Fantastic Driver!!! I've had lots of drivers (R7tp tour, r510tp, G2, 983k) and this, so far, has been the driver to beat. I've only had it for about a week and have played about 54 holes with it and I've been very impressed. I got the with the V2 75X and the shaft seems very playable and plenty long. As far as accuracy I'm usually a long driver but not very straight, but I've only missed 6 fairways with this club since I've bought it (through 3 rounds, which is amazing by my standards, lol). Just feels like a good old, solid, titanium driver that just feels like you smash the ball, and it looks like the Great Big Bertha of old.

I've been thinking about trying the same combo. A friend has the 454 and believes it's the best driver Callaway has ever made (not saying much in my opinion). I've swung his, but it's hard for me to get a good feel as he plays a 10* with pro launch stiff, which doesn't work at all for my 118 swing. I've never been a Callaway fan, and have always found their drivers to feel too light.

However, how much do you think is the shaft vs the driver? I recently put a V2 65 x in my Cobra 450sz tour, which was my backup driver and within 3 swings at the range, it moved into the starting rotation. Best shaft I have hit for my swing. I like the snap at the bottom you get from the V2. I'm also contemplating trying out a Diamana in my 460 Ignite, as a buddy of mine is looking to sell me one $100. Have you tried one? Thanks.

I think it is a little from both worlds. I've always liked Callaway Ti drivers (fusions suck in my opinion), and this is not my first experiance with the V2 so being able to test each of the components without the other component, I just think that the two mold together very well for my swing. I swing between 110-115 with a very smooth tempo but I do have some hit at the ball. I personally have a G2 with a Diamana in it (its even for sale in the BST) and I don't see what the big deal is with the Diamana, I think its very over rated at least for my swing and for $300. I would give the 454 with the V2 a try, I was able to order mine from Callaway with the upgraded shaft for under $300 so there isn't too much to lose.

I've owned the Cleveland Launcher 460, Titleist 983K and 905T, Mizuno MP001, Taylor Made R7 and the Callaway FT-3 over the past 1 1/2 years. The BB 454 is the best overall for my swing. I recently purchased a 10° with the Graphite Design YS-6+ and it is every bit as long as the FT-3 Tour and more forgiving. Great clubs don't always mean the most expensive, especially in this case!

Thanks,

Bert-B

I had the Callaway BB and played it for a while and then stepped up to the Aldila NV S and it didn't gel well with the club. I shortly then after tried the Titleist 983k and absolutely love it. SO much more workable and very forgiving. It's a step down in size but im getting much better control and just about same dist with easy swing.

I have the same problem, I tried the 454 with the stock firm shaft. It's longggg but when i bought it with the "free" NVS upgrade, it felt really weird and didnt get the distance and forgiveness of the stock firm.

Having that said, I still love it and it's still in my bag.

I won one of these and traded it on a Cameron Newport ( the new one) quite a trade I thought. But since then I have hit one 10.5 with the regular shaft. Wow, if I didn't already have 7 titanium drivers I would jump at one of these. Awesome release off of the club face. Used a VFT a couple years ago, loved it and the 454 is an upgraded version.

Titleist heads are made in China as well. If you think they are better than the other OEM's, try performing a simple test. Take a few sets of Titleist irons off the shelf and measure the loft, lie and swingweight of each iron and see how they compare to spec.

I picked up the 454 used on ebay for really cheap. When I first got it to the range I tried to love it but something about it just didn't feel right. The sound was loud and the stock shaft I thought was too wimpy...but later to find out the it will turn out just right. I kept swaping between my R7 and the 454 but the R7 ended up winning. However, I recently put some lead tape on the 454 to give it some weight and mute the soun. Let me tell you WOW! This thing flies!!! First impressions it was shorter than the R7 off the tee, but now it bombs by the R7 by 5-10 yards!! This thing is long! It is forgiving off mishits with maybe 5 yards loss on distance. At address this club inspires confidence, great look with the metallic gray and the Callaway logo up top for alignment. This is now my go to driver, and I am sorry to say the R7 is sitting on the shelf. Great club to have in the bag. It's now affordable with the new release of the X460 coming out.

I have a BB 454 with NV65 S shaft. I was thinking about adding some lead tape to it to increase the weight. It feels quite light and hence I have a tendency to overswing it. When I put a smooth swing on it, it flies like crazy. I also have a slight problem with the sound - it is very loud and tinny sounding. How much lead tape did you put on it (how many strips?)? Did you put it on the back of the head, on the bottom? Did it really mute the sound (added bonus).

I used two strips towards the heel. It have it more weight and it really muted the tin can sound. It sounds like you have the same issues I had with it. Just go experiment with it and then take it to the range and see if you like the setup. The great thing about lead tape is it's cheap so you can try a few setups to your liking.

Traded in my R7 ht, which was very accurate but SHORT, for a BB454 with ProLauch shaft. Great combo for me and I picked up 15+ yards immediately. I like the sound, has a nice pop to it, and it really launches the ball. :)

Reminds me of my old Cleveland Launcher 400 with an NV proto shaft.

Picked up a 454 9* which has a square face not draw bias, with an accra t60 m4 goes great on line nice flight not balloning just a pleasure with a good sound, was trying with a SQ9.5 prolaunch, r7 ht 9.5 with prolaunch, Ping G2 stock stiff. It was pretty close between the 454 and g2, the sq and r7 go elsewhere now..

Just trying to figure out how to round out my bag. The g2 is longer but the 454 is only a little shorter and more accurate.

I picked one up about 4 months ago with the Aldila NV65 S green shaft and it is a great club. It is very straight and not for someone who is really looking to put a lot of shape into it off the tee. Good distance especially on mishits.

I loved this club so much that I purchased three of them because I knew nothing could ever be better. However, the Callaway Octane is better but I would either one of them is better than the new adjustible clubs out today.
