I would say YES. Unless you have a Bag that locks your clubs, like the BagBoy XLT-15.

Iron Headcovers will stop the dings,chips and scratch that WILL occur as your Clubs

bang together as they bounce around in your bag.

 

I use, therefore I recommend, a Neopren cover with a transparent number window

so you can easily see the Iron number or Wedge loft. *See Photo Below*

 

You can pick them up for under 20 bucks at a Pro Shop, Golf Shop or ebay.

I use mine because I can't stand hearing my irons clack together while walking. I use the Mizuno neoprene.
I always remove them after the round.

Yes, but only because I have heard that might be an issue. I have never experienced it.

I used to use them all the time. More so because I didn't like hearing my clubs bang together while walking. They definitely protect the clubs, but unless your planning on selling them quickly or your playing a VERY soft set of forged clubs, I'd pass on them. If the noise bothers you, a towel works just fine.

But in the end, its up to you.

I use them because bag chatter is annoying and doesn't help when it's time to sell the irons on eBay. The rubber castle bay covers, as my pop says, are the "cats a**" ( means they're good). The neoprene versions aren't bad but if they're stitched they can eventually tear. If you're playing a smaller head iron the type that dicks/galaxy sells tend to fall off because they're for oversized irons

Wallmart sells neoprene covers. They are cheap , thin and small. They fit into your pocket very easily and if you loose one they cost very little.

I bought some of the neoprene ones- with numbers on the covers- from GolfTown and they started to tear after only a few rounds in cart golf on a recent trip. My labelled 6 neoprene cover fell off in a couple of rounds and was replaced with my not-used 3 iron cover.

I'm now using the Club Golf Gloveskin that were recommended several times in one of the 1000 or so threads on this topic (lol). Make sure you get the right size- regular like for forged or oversize. As I'm in Canada, I got them from eBay- Club Golf doesn't ship to Canada. I do take them off after each use as a just in case for moisture.

I should add that I have little concern about the Gloveskin ones coming off unless I'm very careless about putting them on. And they also seem very sturdy and look good, as far as iron covers go.

I think the neoprene ones with windows would be my second choice, though I'd be really careful about taking them off for moisture with the clear plastic bit. Plus they are cheap for replacement as needed. But meantime, if one gets lost or damaged, they would be easily interchangeable. i.e. If one is using hybrids, there will be spare ones if the set comes with enough to cover 3 iron and below.

You can do whatever you want but it's not going to stop me from making fun of you. And really, I can care less as long as you don't slow the group down or constantly have to go back and look for your lost 7 iron cover.

I have used iron covers off and on for years. Usually just when irons are new and before I know I am going to keep them.

Since I have gone to graphite shafts, I am thinking of using them again. They have one more advantage other than protecting heads and shafts… and that is (at least for me) they prevent club tangling in 14 way bags. They are thicker and softer so the clubs stay oriented the way they are rather than bouncing/sliding off each other and reversing direction.

The only ones I think are worth a damn are the club gloves, and I really only need to use one on every other club.

Club Glove are great a little expensive but last a long time and I agree I hate the bag chatter.
