I've hit balls with Idrive400yards before. Don't let his injury fool you...he's an animal...

Iwill FlyU is another member of my longdrive team, I just wish I got to him sooner, cause this guy can bomb it also, his swing is text book and even with his ss he has no loss of contollability whatsoever! Now if I can only get him to work out to build upon his ss, he would be one of the dominant forces out there.

You have to carefull with a weighted club especially one up to 6lb. Sad to say that I konw from first hand that a heavy club with a full swing that is not really smooth can tear cartilage in your hip as well as shoulders and knees.

I couldn't agree with you more. If anyone tries this, you have got to be extremely careful because you can hurt yourself with this. Just like any other workout, start out slowly and if it starts to hurt you STOP! I want to see everyone still playing and not hurt because of this.

so where are we able to pick one of these Troy bars up...

i'd like to get one to use over the winter, to help keep my golf muscles trained...

Read the whole top post, as I gave the info to the company with telephone #. If you call them, they can lead you to a distributor. You can also check on ebay like WannaBePro did.

**UPDATE**

I've been swinging my troy bar for a week along with continual working out of course and thought I'd see if I have improved yet. I stopped by the golf shop to rip some drives, the only swing speed meter they had was a Bel Swing Mate. Since I just stopped by there at the spur of the moment I didn't have my Troy Bar or Momentus to warm up with. I ended up constantly at the 111-112 mark still so I was a little disappointed (No gains yet). I do question the validity of the Bel Swing Mate meter because it is located 3 feet behind the ball/impact point and could be getting a early reading. I have a late release with a lot of acceleration right before impact so maybe the numbers are a little low. I do also have to keep in mind my body was sore from working out the day prior and also didn't warm up/stretch very well prior.

I'm going to keep working on it because I do feel a lot more consistent and building speed doesn't happen overnight.

patience reaps rewards, swinging sore? that will slow you down also, bad ss monitor, really not accurate, also give yourself a couple of days to recover before taking a reading and remember to warm up before swinging!

lagfix,

glad you can find one off of ebay, hope it works for you! I really love the ultraboom, it's by far the most consistant shaft out there for me, it loads and releases at the proper time, don't feel any head twisting at impact. hope to get more to finish off my arsenal.

Yeah, I really didn't feel like I was swinging very fast/well. I'll get on a real launch monitor in a couple weeks with the proper warmup. I do know it is working though (troy bar) The bar itself seems as if it is getting lighter every day!!! :) ;) :stop: :stop:

Caution to anyone who starts using the Troy Bar. Start out slowly and IMO I don't thjink it's for beginners/out of shape golfers. I could swing a 40 ounce Momentus at full speed and the Troy Bar is on another level.

  • 1 month later...

I picked up another 2mph to my max ss, a total of 6mph. Still going to the gym 5 days a week for 2.5 hr sessions each and working with the TROY BAR every day. I'll tell ya I think it's time to move up to the 9lb'r cause the 6 is like swinging a regular driver now, it no longer feels heavy to me. I'm not getting bigger in terms of size but more stronger. If the 6mph gain is all that I get I'm still extremely happy. Feeling alot better and can pound 200-300 balls without getting tired now. I can't wait until the longdrive season starts and I think I'm as ready to go as I have ever been, only the swing tweaking and resting the knee for full onslaught of the balls to go!

I got the 6 lb troy bar yesterday. took it a little longer then I would like to get here, but it wasn't like the weahter was great to be using it anyhow.

first impression when getting it from the UPS guy. a lot heavier then I expected. I have swung 10 lb dumbbells, but I guess this being so long it makes it feel heavier. I got on a scale with it and it says its 7.7 lbs and the length is 46 1/2"

I just took it out in the yard ( 4 inches of snow and ice under that) and swung it a couple times at a slow pace. wasn't too bad. I then for a baseline swung my golf club first and got a reading of 102-104 (44 1/2" driver) which wasn't too bad because I didn't have good footing due to the ice or hitting a ball.

Swung the troy bar for about 1 minute , trying to get faster and faster I got it up to 51 mph when I quit with it. How does that compare on how fast you guys swing it?

back to my driver, 116 was the max I seen

Overall I like the troy bar, the more I use it the better its going to be. But I wouldn't touch the thing if you aren't in shape.

The numbers may not seem great, but for the conditions I was elated. When swinging wtih no ball in JAnuary my ss was around 107, but when I hit a ball it would jump to 117-119. So with me getting 113-116 with no ball and slipping on my footing it is great.

I will put some more results up as the snow melts, I think we are supposed to get up to 33* next week ;)

Sorry to hear about your snow, over here in North Carolina, 40-55*, no snow, and can still hit balls ;) I haven't taken any readings with swinging my troybar on a launch monitor, so I couldn't tell you what I get with it. All I know is after using this for a few months now, the bar almost feels too light for me, so I guess it's working. I'm going to my first REMAX in March, so I'll let you know the results I'm getting. Be very careful when swinging it especially on wet/icy ground, I don't want to see you getting hurt.

well i just ordered one of these, i hope it works out, i figure if it doesn't 30 bucks can't kill me. i am in the same boat that the momentus just didn't feel heavy anymore, i think it will be a long time if ever before swinging 6 lbs feels light.

Glad I came across this thread. I was almost set to buy one of the Momentus Power Hitters, but this makes a lot more sense (and it's easier on the pocket book).

i am consistantly at 138-144, instead of struggling to get there, still using it daily and it's feeling lighter and lighter every time I use it. I have been hitting with better consistancy and longer length since I started back in october.

Cool

I just got into the whole LD game myself. I've been hitting the ball 350+ for a long time now...and I don't know why I waited this long to get into it. Now that I'm getting serious about it, this training stick you mentioned here will be a great tool.

after one weekend of using this i can tell that this troybar definately works some muscles, whether or not these prove to be the right muscles needed for golf remains to be seen. after using this a few days i am sore right below my shoulder blades, did you guys have the same soreness? also i realize that this thing really works the forearms, that can't be bad either. my only fear is that i might somehow train myself to swing slower with this thing, i wish i had a speedchain or something in addition to this that forces you to swing faster.

IDrive400- Nice to see yours is working well for you!!!

Little update on mine-I haven't been swinging mine for the last couple months because my shoulder injury wasn't jiving well with it. I've been focusing on resistance bands, medicine ball, light weight training, etc. I really want to get back to swinging it as my shoulder is feeling pretty good (probably 90 percent now).

I haven't had any soreness at my shoulder blades while using this, provx. And so that you don't get used to swinging slower, start to build up speed when swinging and beleive me you wouldn't need a speed chain, and yes it works the forearms and wrists alot(main muscles for speed and quickness). Keep on working with it as much as you can, you'll only get what you put into it, the more the better.

Hope your shoulder injury heels fast wannabepro!

I just saw this thread. The heavy bar is a good thing. I use the 9 and 12 pounders. This does 2 things for you- strength and flexibility. I don't try to swing the thing fast as that would be non-helpful and risk injury. Doesn't VJ use something crazy like a 40 pound club?

the 9 and 12 lbs bar is great for stretching, but to build speed, stay with the 6lb, easier to swing and feels more like a golf club instead of a log. I don't think that there is in any way shape or form that vj swings a 40lb club, it would just throw his back out for 1, and would just be to bulky for him to swing, and i don't think he is that strong enough in the right places to swing a 40lb club.

well so far im really liking this troy bar experiment, there is one downside however, and thats the fact that my irons feel rediculously light now. before i swung some callaways with dynamic gold superlights in them, just to tryout that shaft. i realized those were too light even before the troy bar, but after the troy bar i physically cant even feel the club. so i go back to my blades with dynamic golds in them and these feel like superlights as well! its like i need some x300's or something just to get that feel back!
