New Decade Whiteouts

Who's been using the Whiteouts? I haven't seen much talk about actual use and such.

 

I've got the original NDMCs on my irons and was thinking of throwing the whiteouts on my wedges. Is the BCT cord softer than the regular ones?

I just put a couple on a few days ago. It does seem like the lower rubber portion is a little softer. The upper corded part still feels the same as the old NDMC's but the lower half actually feels a little better to me. Maybe the raised rubber parts of the lower half are a little thicker than before? It doesnt feel spongy or anything though. If I remember right, I think the whiteouts are a little heavier than the old NDMC's as well. I really like them and will be regripping my whole set with them soon. Just wish they had different colors than just black/red/blue. The old black/green NDMC combo looked sweet.

The lower rubber portion is soft. I had my irons re-gripped two months ago and there is already a marked wear spot on my six iron in the lower portion. I should point out that the six iron is the club I practice with and I practice at least twice a week.

How does the white portion hold up? I've had some white grips in the past and was not too happy with how dirty they get. I know some people clean after every round, but once I'm done playing I tend to forget all about it.

I honestly don't like them as much as the older ones...they seem almost slick to me in the whiteout section on top...! Maybe just me..older ones still feel better. I just can't feel the cord in the new ones near as much.

i've had them on for several rounds now, and agree completely with st louis assessment; the new whiteouts are nice -- and the white is not as prone to looking crappy like a white iomic will, but the feel on the old ndmcs is more secure; i already have a batch of the old ones to put back on when the whiteouts get worn

I agree with Dscvrr. I have found the whiteout section to be slick and slightly harsh feeling. Although they look pretty sweet, I don't think I'll be using these again.

Add me to this group as well. Love the look, but the feel just doesn't match the old ones.

I just put a set on, and the white butt section feels loose to me at the end. Looking closely at it, the end cap appears to be a separate piece which lets the butt end of the grip move a little. When I looked at the old style on my old set, it's one piece, and has a much firmer (more stable) feel in my hands.
As for the lower portion being softer, I actually prefer that.
If the weather ever breaks, I'll see how they are when I hit them.

I played 4 rounds with mine and pulled them. Felt way too slick. I went back to the Lamkin Crossline.

Funny you all feel this way. I do too. It seems to be the consensus with these. No wonder I could get them for less than $5 each at DSG.

I actually kind of like it though because it keeps the hands out of the swing. It forces you to have soft hands and lighter grip pressure allowing the club to do the work. Then it becomes just a simple turn and body through swing.

I'll report back once I've gotten more rounds with these. May have to go to the Z-Cords but we'll see how they hold up.

Update -

I found a way to get a MUCH better grip out of these:

- Buy some "Simple Green"
- Mix 1:1 with water into a spray bottle
- Scrub with rough side of a sponge
- Wipe down and let dry
- Take 80 grit sandpaper to the cord section. This allows more of the cord fibers to be exposed. Emery cloth with about the same level grit works even better.
And voila! New "new" NDMC whiteouts.
Tried this method on my Z-Grip Cord grips too. It works even better on these.

Just put whiteouts on my wedges and trying to decide between these and the regular NDMC's for my driver & woods. So far I prefer the feel of the whiteouts, but we'll see how they wear. They feel significantly softer to me.

Agreed... I much prefer look and feel of the Whiteouts over original.

Picked up a handful of whiteouts on clearance over the winter and have to say I'm not impressed. Like many have said, the white portion feels slicker than the regular black rubber ndmc's. After I've depleted my stash, I'll be switching back to whatever/black combos again.
