Living at a poverty level playing golf must get old. She won more at Big Break than her entire Symetra career.

Long term failed Symetra Tour players should not be on Big Break---a break won't help them as they don't have the talent. Like a AAA baseball player you need to know when to give up a delusional dream of hitting the Majors and stop playing or be happy at the AAA level.
What does that say about the rest of the ladies then? If she shouldn't have been on, then should any of them? She definitely looked like she was the best player out there, so does that mean the others don't have the talent to take advantage of a break either?
She has reached her full potential, some of the younger less experienced players could still develop and improve their games.

I had this same mindset from the fist week...what is a 8-9 year player who can't get out of the developmental tour doing on the show. But I've changed my mind, seeing how well Marcella played over the series, maybe something clicked for her. There may have been other issues in the past, who knows. I'll admit I was pulling for Selanee but not unhappy to see Marcella pull off the win. Based on her BB appearance, she seems to have the game to hold up and move forward. BUT, this years Symetra Tour results don't seem to be bearing that out, so not sure what to make of it, really.

This conversation has come and gone in this thread....

I think what it amounts to is those that have the talent to make it to the big leagues, do.....those who don't....well, why not just enjoy the show.

I didn't read the "spoiler" in this thread before watching the show so consider me unbiased... but to me, Selanee looked noticeably upset during her interviews as early as the 2nd or 3rd hole. IMO, they shouldn't run those ongoing interviews as play is going on. It usually just gives away what's going to happen.

Did anyone else notice on one of the very first holes, Marcela walks to the tee with her driver that has a Adams Speedline cover on it. She plays an R11...
Gotta love sponsors.

At least for the women, they need to sit them farther way from the camera, or do "voice-over" work only until the end. Common issue that most of the time it's obvious who is going home 30 minutes into the show. :angry22:

Considering Selanee was 4 down making the turn at the 30 minute mark....regardless of appearence in interviews, we all knew who was gonna win.

You have to figure they're gonna leave 10 minutes for the trophy blah blah blah at the end.....so as they were making the turn you probably realized "well, there's no way they would only leave 20 minutes to show Seleanee's miraculous comeback....well, congrats Marcela". The editing/timing of the show always tells you who's gonna leave....it's rarely rocket surgery.

Finale was such a let down. Match was never close. Selanee never even looked like she had a chance.

I was so excited to see Marcela's solid play throughout the show, versus Selanee's clutchness when it mattered. That clutchness wasn't there at all, just a lot of poor wedges and irons, coupled with bad putting.

Has there been a less exciting or bigger blowout in a Big Break Final?? Very disappointing.

Just want to point out again, mostly for the comments referencing "Over the course of the show/series" that while its aired over a couple months that we see, its shot in something like 1-2 weeks.

They play maybe the equivelent of a single round of golf over the entire series, some even less than that. The leaders, aka Marcela , hardly hit more than a couple dozen shots up till the last couple shows.

She does look like a solid player , but a sinlge round of golf is no indication at all of career potential. I think we may have seen some insight to her troubles last night where she noticably stalled towards the end and showed signes of struggle to close out the match.

I don't think any of us watch expecting to see Tour level golf , in fact the bulk of the cast going back for years now, is made up of Career golf failures. Not to sound like a slam but it is true. Its hasnt been a Big Break since year one. It's clearly a Last Chance Sally. :)

In my house we were talking about that last night while watching the show. Why not use the voice only? As long as something interesting is on screen at the time, the lack of couch clip video is not noticeable.

They spend hour after hour filming those confessionals every night then use only a fraction. I guess that's why they over value their worth, and insist on showing them even if it often gives away the outcome. The producers undoubtedly try to convince themselves the look is normal. They see the player every day for two weeks in all different settings and moods. To them, that's Shannon. She looked that way when we filmed the promo at the dolphin pool. Meanwhile, the audience inherits 12 strangers and quickly identifies a changed emotional appearance.

The reunion show has been absent for years. I can't remember the last time they did it. It was a feature early in Big Break. The first one was amusing because the guy who had been eliminated in the first episode couldn't make it. Older guy named Garrett. I think it was a health issue. During the studio show, Kelly Tilghmann (or maybe it was Katherine Roberts) tried to prompt a positive review of Garrett from the other contestants but some jerk decided it was fitting to rip him again.

The bonus shows like Breed's Academy and the reunion episode lend credence to the idea Golf Channel thought this was a special cast, one that warranted extra exposure and probably could garner ratings and interest level beyond recent Big Breaks. It didn't work out that way. I'd expect the fall Big Break Greenbrier and subsequent ones to return to episode only...one and done.

Oh it's a secret all right....and "they" don't want you to know about it.

But seriously....why the reunion all of a sudden? If it's like Awsi said, i.e. GC thinks this cast is special, what is the criteria for said "specialness"....cause i have a guess....cup size. Don't even try to get offended by that.....it's WAY too late in the game to cry foul of crossing any kind of line.

I agree. It looked more and more clear cut as the show went on. Apparently the producers in charge of the reunion show agree, because they seated Allison in the front row alongside winner Marcela and runner up Selanee. There's no other reason for that. Not exactly shocking that Meghan and Kelly also managed front row berths, while third place Gloriana was relegated to second row.

Allison's pep talk to Selanee during the finale could be used as an excuse to seat Allison alongside Selanee and chat about that during the reunion show, but I'm convinced the arrangement would have been the same regardless.

Allison is so naturally pretty she doesn't need the spray tan or excessive tan look. In fact, it detracts. Her legs look darker and less attractive in those Golfweek photos than during the series itself.

Yes they could call it the Breed Project and maybe even get a celeb or two to go on the show. If mike is too busy they could ask one of tigers old coaches to fill in.....

Thanks for the link. Sounds like Meghan was the chirpy one. I'm surprised Beth Baldry was so specific with the quotes, although you have to suspect Golf Channel prompted if not encouraged it, for ratings purposes. What is Baldry doing there in the first place? The show didn't stand on its own as much as expected, so another artificial boost is enabled.

Baldry on Meghan:

"While everything Leon said was a PR expert’s dream, Hardin filled the role of producer’s dream by stirring the reunion pot. Wearing a skin-tight colorful number that highlighted her can’t-miss curves, Hardin called out players who hadn’t competed much since the show finished taping.

Hardin said she resented the fact that some players who lasted longer than her on the show didn’t care as much about golf, saying she wanted more than her 15 minutes of fame.

“I think it makes the show look bad, in a way,” Hardin said once taping had finished. “It looks like they chose 12 pretty girls who can kind of golf.”

***

Actually, after looking at that again, it appears Meghan's most pointed comments came after the show had taped, apparently while questioned by Baldry after she dropped the theme on the show. Initially I thought Meghan's "12 pretty girls" line was delivered on the program itself.

Regardless, notice who we are talking about from a spunky standpoint, the first three players eliminated -- Meghan, Shannon and Zakiya. As many of us guessed at the time, this version had an unusually poor distribution in elimination. Given her level at the time the show aired, Meghan had to go very early minus being saved by team play, but Shannon and Zakiya had chatty rift potential that otherwise never showed up.

Meghan apparently has been practicing relentlessly. Still, her frustration toward the others doesn't fit this cast. It wasn't any secret that only a handful of them were playing regular mini tour golf. Symetra is more difficult to get on these days, since it uses LPGA Q School as the feeder. Otherwise, outside of the Orlando area (Suncoast Series) and Phoenix (Cactus Tour) there aren't many smaller tour opportunities for women.

I echo the thanks for the link.

No surprise that Meghan is critical of the show. In her GolfWRX interview, she did not read very impressed with the show and how it was handled. That being written, from the little bit we saw her play....she wasn't exactly all that impressive herself....so good on her for working hard on her game and taking her golf career seriously.

While I'm on the subject of praising Meghan, props to her for saying what we've all been thinking/writing in this thread: “It looks like they chose 12 pretty girls who can kind of golf.” That would have been classic if she had said it during the actual taping of the show....but still, a solid observation.

With respect to the rest of the article....I think my favorite quote is: "Shannon Fish, a former Texas player, was eliminated early despite being one of the most talented." Turns out this is a commonly held fact, considering how many people in this thread picked her to win early on. Too bad she was out so early....might've elevated the show in terms of both golf and drama.

[*]Replace Tom Abbott. He is awful and certainly acts like he doesn't want to be there. His comments make him look like he doesn't know much about golf.
[*]Stephanie Sparks does an okay job, but she has kind of "hit the wall".
[*]Continue to make boob size a requirement for at least one-fourth of the field. But give us more bikini shots.

I agree about Abbott. I wish they would bring back Vince Cellini.
