Does Gloriana really only hit the ball like 210 yards off the tee?
When she hit her tee shot on the last hole and Abbott said "looks like she is going to be in the middle and just shy of the bunkers", I was thinking "um yeah, like 80 yards shy".
Yeah, the previous hole was 359 and she had 149 in, the par 5 was 482 and she had 280 in, it didn't look like the wind was blowing out there at all. I believe Salanee had 110 and 230 in on the same holes. Looking at the LPGA stats the player who is last in driving distance is averaging 221 yards and it looks as though Gloriana is around 205-210.

Gloriana averages just shy of 240 on Symetra, with a high of 246 a couple of years ago. No question she looks shorter than that on this series, particularly in the recent episodes. She didn't attempt the long drive challenge early in the series, if I remember correctly.

Marcela is the distance oddity. The first year Symetra published the driving distance stat on its website Marcela was 7th on tour at roughly 250. But in recent seasons she dropped considerably, with one year at 235. She's been behind Gloriana, which doesn't make a fleck of sense. This season she hasn't played enough events to qualify for the stats. I notice she returns to the field this week after not playing since April.

The driving distance relationship between Marcela and Selanee will be among the intriguing variables next week. It's been tight during challenges. I suspect Selanee will prove longer on the course.

Minus a terrific finale, this season may turn out to be among the least memorable in Big Break history. But the totality of Selanee's play during elimination rounds is superior to anyone I can think of.

I read a few of the recent producers' blogs. They were essentially bemoaning that a series minus backstage drama is difficult to edit. I think they got lazy and assumed an all-female version, by definition, would include catfights. It's kind of ridiculous that there hasn't been an overpowering outrageous personality on any of the all female Big Breaks, nobody the equivalent of a Brian Skatell or Don Donatello. Also, these players didn't know each other, for the most part, lessening the familiarity/contempt opportunity. Stick 6-7 struggling low paid Symetra players of similar level out there and they'll invent reason to snipe at one another.

I enjoyed the unpredictable nature early in this series. Other than Meghan as the most inexperienced player, and Shannon's devastated appearance in confessional the following week, the next 4-5 eliminated players contained plenty of surprises. The series lost all threat of uncertainty with 25 minutes remaining the week Anya was eliminated, with the idiotic inclusion of the clips reminding that every player who bought out of elimination lived to regret it. From that point forth it's been like watching an event where you already know the outcome, particularly for those who caught the preview gaffe a couple of weeks ago before it was yanked. Luckily I avoided that one. I managed one week in the late going where at least it was one among two. The clip of Marcela saying weeks ago that she yearned to play Selanee head to head never should have been included. The producers apparently don't realize they've abused that subtle gag far too often, to the point it's no longer subtle, particularly when you reinforce the evidence within minutes with a clip of Selanee saying she's determined to get to the final the conventional way. Granted, the apparently legit leak here early in this thread didn't help matters. On other forums the late results may have held more suspense.

I'm with Awsi.....this big break is quickly becoming one of the least memorable. It's getting to the point where i'm starting to think that recent beach video on gc.com....which included an unsurprising amount of focus on Meghan in a bikini.....is golf channel milking (please don't make this a pun in your head....that might lead to my being suspended) all the show has (i.e. T&A).

Anyway....some thoughts on last night's show:

-bringing all the girls back for, what amounts to, a money game.....that had no bearing on the show.....was a bit silly. I tuned in to watch the show progress.....not a contrived challenge, which included a bit too much cheering and cries of "SIT".....honestly, anyone else think the cheering seemed over the top and forced? Ultimately, some of the challenges on the show (Yani and tic-tac-toe come to mind) really worked....however, some (last night and wolf) really flopped.....i guess this goes with the whole argument that this version of BB is begging for a rebuttal from the Simpson's comic book guy ("Worst. Big Break. Ever.")

-Selanee....wow....seriously....the girl is what? 4 billion under par in elimination challenges? Sure, one could argue that her game might be a touch weak if she keeps ending up in elimination challenges....however, she'll certainly shut your trap if you face her in an elimination challenge.....it's especially impressive when you consider her self-professed anxiety issues.

-Speaking of selanee.....is she really that cocky or is this another comment on the piss poor editing of this edition? During the challenge with glo, selanee made a couple of really cocky comments.....leading up to the last hole she said how great she's playing and she's gonna crush her drive....then started to wonder what tomorrow was gonna be like before she holed out. Sure....she was kicking butt....and i'm well aware of how editing can completely change a situation.....but i started to wonder when i reconsidered her reaction to the other girls coming back....she clearly wasn't happy to see them....like, at all....and when they showed up, there seemed to be a lot of frolocking around glo and marcela....but little around selanee. Maybe they're trying for that cat fight?

-Glo....man....she played well, if under the radar, most of the season.....but when she really needed it, she definately did not bring the goods. Selanee played quite well and definately deserved the win....but dang, glo did not play well at all. The lack of distance was definately noticeable....and seemed to put a lot of pressure on her game....but she definately didn't bring it....

Ultimately, i'm watching the finale next week....in for a penny.....but i doubt i could care less about the result......

Speaking of this week's contrived money challenge.....i quote from this week's producer's blog:

"...the very fun, yet ultimately pointless prize challenge which highlighted the all too brief return of the entire cast of Big Break Atlantis,..."

Granted, I agree the challenge was pointless....however, I enjoy fabricating a back story which led to the quote....cause i'm picturing a guy who argued with his fellow producers to not include the challenge but rather have a proper 18 hole match between glo and selanee....only to have the other producers win the argument....and this quote is the guy's last passive aggressive stab at his fellow producers....hilarious.

I've wanted Marcella to win since I stared picking my favorites in the first few episodes of the show. At this point I am absolutely routing for Selanee. The way she has played in elimination matches is outstanding. Her swing makes me cringe but dropping birdies make me forget (almost). Selanee deserves her shot to get a big break and I hope she comes out on top next week.

I have watched every season of this show and selanee is the most clutch player I have seen. She has a funky swing but if it hold up under pressure that is all that is needed. I really hope she wins I would watch women's golf to see her.

Selanee is growing on me. Aside from being cute/athletic, she seems like the kind of person who would have no problem drinking a beer with you and smashing the can flat on her head, without missing a beat.
+1

As Greg Brady would say, she is one groovy chick!

Gloria should get the prize for the most inane comment of the series. Although she had a bunch of them, the winner had to be the one on the last hole in her elimination match against Selanee. She's three down on the tee and says she had a "great chance" to win the match. Let's see, she doesn't have the distance to hit the green in two even if there was a 50 mph tail wind. Selanee is in the rough, but playable and she has been staking her irons all match. So, somehow she is going to make up four shots on one hole. Huh?

My pick for inane comment would be "after fighting for the whole show, it sucks that four holes can take you out". How about Meghan who was out after a few shots or the girls that didn't even get a hole to try to play their way in? She got five holes and screwed them up royally, it sucks.

I wouldn't be surprised if they concocted an excuse for the eliminated players to return. They were giddy at this cast, to the point they invented the Michael Breed vehicle. Then too many high profile players were dumped early. Damn. Do we really need 9 holes in the semifinal? Make it 5.

At least it allowed some distributed cash. That's been lacking in recent Big Breaks, after Waste Management bailed as sponsor. Lori Atsedes must have pocketed 30 or 40 thousand despite not winning individual honors in either version she appeared in. In this case, I'm not sure Gloriana leaves with anything other than the 2 grand she earned last night.

I hope they throw together a decent package of prizes for the runner up.

It was strange but not surprising for Marcela to reach all the way back to second eliminated to identify Shannon as the top choice. I don't think Marcela remembered her name, hence, "...the Texan girl." That had to sting Christina a little bit, since she was ousted one day earlier. Gloriana played the sweet classy role by quickly picking Christina with the next choice. Christina beamed. Surprised she didn't say, "Absolutely."

This show lacked bickering throughout then Selanee and Natalia found an unlikely squabble in a mostly meaningless challenge. I bet the producers were wondering where was that for two weeks?

I doubt Selanee would have pressed Natalia like that earlier in the series. Selanee has been gaining confidence every week, noticeable not only on the course but particularly in the confessional clips. Good job by the producers to use so many of them lately. Selanee increasingly looks like she's holding the ace. Notice that early in this episode, and in the promos, Selanee was featured in the couch clips very frequently but the show waited to use Gloriana, whose eyes didn't look the greatest.

You've got a point....she certainly was a lot of mouth at the beginning of the season....however, she never went to elimination and she heated up from the half way point onwards......so we both win.....

Winning is fun.

So true about the concocted excuse.....it was probably a more crass discussion however (i.e. something to the effect of "hey, where's the boobs?")....expecially when you consider that low cut tank tops and yoga shirts/pants aren't in the wardrobes of the final 3....

.....

wait....that was the reason....wasn't it? Marcela, Glorianna and Selanee all wear appropriate golf attire.....oh for pete's sake.

Anyway....also completely agree with the sudden drama between Selanee and Natalia.....although, i stand by my earlier statement that Selanee doesn't seem to get along with any of the girls....like you said, she's gained confidence as she's gone along....if she had had the confidence from the get go maybe she would have been mouthing off non-stop....then you get your drama.....i guess we'll never know.....

My wife is not a golfer but she watches the show with me. Every time last night they did a cut away with Selanee my wife would look at me and say...What a bit##. That girl has a way sounding nasty even when she's trying to say something nice. No matter what she says you can see that underlying nastiness just below the surface. Its also funny when she does that fake smile like she's never smiled before and shes trying to figure out how to do it. Im rootin for the other gal in the last show. Selanee needs to get that over inflated ego slapped around a little bit. I hope she does a total choke and just tanks.

You know. I never had the impression that Selanee was being mean or rhymes with witchy. I think she's just expressing some confidence in her own game.

When the season started her confidence seemed pretty low and I think her good play in the eliminations has helped to build confidence in her own game.

Now with her this new found confidence she does come off a bit cocky at times. That said, I haven't seen her say anything nasty about a fellow competitor - she just talks about her own game with confidence.

If you look at all of the good players (PGA/LPGA/other sports) they all have that same confidence. I think it's necessary to pull off the things they try. I think she'll grow into her confidence (if her plays keeps up) and over time she won't come off quite so cocky.

I understand what you're saying, as far as someone saying who won a tournament that already happened. Ex if you dvr the British to watch a few days later, stay out of the tour section to avoid spoilers. But I'm in a discussion about a show that hasn't aired yet. As I understand it, this leak happened early on and holds more weight than other links, so I was doing my best to avoid it. That means I can't read this thread the entire course of the show? It'd be easy to pass right over posts if guys would just put "spoiler" at the beginning of their post.

I would say that's a perfect description of a recent Big Break contestant but no way I would assign it to Selanee.

Meanwhile, Selanee continues to have poor results on the Symetra Tour. Missed cut at 80-74 this week. Normally a player fares well on Symetra during the show's airing, if she won or nearly won. Marcela had a nice bounce back round of 69 today and is T10 at -1 heading into Sunday. It's her first event since April. Nicole Smith of Big Break Ireland needs a big check to return to Top 10 of the money list. She's T2 and 3 shots back at -4, after leading by 2 with an opening 67.

dude....don't apologize for giving your opinion and the logic behind it. I think Selanee is going to win as well....and no, i will NOT put a spoiler alert with that. It's my opinion based on how Selanee is trending, the guys "insider" friend from earlier in this thread and marcela's appearence in the preview. No spoiler....it's a friggin' guess....sure wish i was guessing marcela....man does she look like she has game....

The spoiler alert brigade need to chill out....talk about first world problems. Lets say i knew for fact selanee is gonna win (and i don't)....does that really ruin your day? Come on, it's just a tv show.....it's entertainment.....frig.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here. Giving your opinion based on who's playing well, how you think a girl's eyes look, etc is one thing. A leak getting out about who won, one which seems pretty likely seeing as how it was made in the beginning and is one of two girls now left seems pretty likely to be accurate. I think that's worthy of a spoiler alert and for the record I've never complained about spoilers once in the tour section. Some people don't mind knowing how a movie ends before watching and some do. Can we respect that? Or should we tell those people they can't participate in threads like this? All it takes is the word "spoiler" before any inside info.

All that said, I look like an idiot if the other gal wins... :-)

Exactly. I'm sorry but I'm sick of this around here. There are people that want to come into tournament threads that want spoilers based on what is going on because they taped it and want to watch it later. I'm sorry but if you taped it - then no, dont read the thread, come back fricking later. In a thread about BBA people are going to talk or speculate about what is going on with BBA!!! This might include rumors or things people heard about the show. Good grief, if you dont want to know or read other peoples thoughts or guesses or rumors then no, dont read this thread.

Yesterday I had taped the Final Round and woke up late to watch it. I didnt even come on golfwrx because I didnt want the chance of seeing a random thread title - maybe in a non-tour forum.
