Anyone heard of Volvik golfballs?

These are being used on the LPGA tour a little and they are sponsoring the Range balls at some tournaments. I beleive they are from Korea but haven't seen much info on them. Any info out there?

I didn't realize they had so many models (looks like they have a 4-piece urethane ball now). The only one I have ever seen is the Crystal which is an overly mushy, low compression, 2-piece surlyn ball. Literally the worst solid core ball I have ever tried.

anybody know where to get the 4 piece balls in the u.s. ? The usga lists them as low driver spin and high wedge spin, might be worth a try if I could get my hands on some.

I would be interested to know where to get the tour leval ball as well

A buddy of mine found a Crystal in a pond while looking for his B330S. I told him that ball should have stayed in the pond but for giggles he decided to play the hole out with it. He then proceeded to walk off the green, drop the ball in the rough, and whack it right back in the pond.

Volvik Crystal literally means sparkling piece of crap in more than one Eastern European country.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

The Volvik Crystal ball was made originally as a low-compression ball for people with very low swing speeds (essentially marketed towards women).

If they have a 4-piece ball, it's probably only because they needed a ball for LPGA players to play so they could get their name out there more. To be honest, I would put my money on one of the "tour" balls from one of the other major manufacturers before I would buy a Volvik 4-piece.

If you need a lower compression tour ball, try the ones from Bridgestone -- I think they are the B330RX and RXS?

randomly bumped into finding the volvik prospect ball (originally released circa 2006 or 2007, 3 piece, Z urethane, 70 compression) at the world golf village tour stop store and honestly had to make sure i saw the price correctly....on closeout for $7.99 a dozen. snatched up a few as i had no idea what to expect, although i knew of it from reading reviews. it's been my gamer ever since, with the exception of my current phase of the z star tour yellow and wilson iWound. otherwise, i have a total count of 14 dozen in my closet that still remains. i played the volvik prospect exclusively for a year up until now and will no doubt return comfortably back to them. this is the first time i've used a volvik product and i'm impressed

I was at the LPGA Futures event in Iowa this past weekend, and saw that Volvik is a major sponsor of the tour, and in addition, several of the players had Volvik staff/stand bags and were actually playing the ball in competition.

It is the "official" range ball, and I walked over and looked at one that just happened to laying on the fringe of the putting green with a few other Volviks. The model in question is the "Bismuth 3-Pc.", so I would guess this is the same model that several of the players actually use on the course.

Interesting fact about bismuth: "Bismuth has classically been considered to be the heaviest naturally occurring stable element, in terms of atomic mass. Recently, however, it has been found to be very slightly radioactive: its only primordial isotope bismuth-209 decays via alpha decay into thallium-205 with a half-life of more than a billion times the estimated age of the universe"

Not being a physicist, I can't really comment on the specific effects that bismuth would have in terms of performance of the golf ball in general, but I can state from observation of several cases that the young women playing the Volvik balls seemed to gain an incredible advantage in driving distance when they were hitting into the wind. We're talking like 30-40 yards, compared to downwind or crosswind holes where the distances were in the same ballpark (vs. the other non-Volvik balls)!

I don't get it. Why spend all the money they do advertising in the US, if consumers can't even buy their product?

Yeah, you can buy the "crystal" balls (barely, with only 2 online vendors) but it sounds as if those are not well regarded. Why not offer the full line? Or at least your best product/ball?

Their business plan just doesn't make sense to me...

Here is a link that gives some decriptions of their products with $$

Looks like their top ball is the Zirconia, with a bismuth mixed core and zirconium in the outer layer.
