:partytime2: This will be true Prime Time Viewing!!!
It sure will be.... for about six hours solid.

The TV networks will focus solely on this group from the moment they leave the practice green until they reach the scorers tent, regardless of how they are playing or who else is playing well.

Too much of a circus for me. The US Open doesn't need to pull stunts like this.

Holy crap! That is awesome! Gonna be wathin' day one for that one.

Who shoots the lowest score? Tiger maybe, he's on fire right now.
No doubt Tiger is on fire, but it is hard to ignore recent history and of late, Phil has outplayed Tiger when they are grouped together.

Bubba - 10 events: 1 win, 4 top 10's, 9 top 25's, 1 cut
Phil - 13 events: 1 win, 5 top 10's, 7 top 25's, 1 cut, 1 WD
Woods - 9 events: 2 wins, 3 top 10's, 5 top 25's, 1 cut, 1 WD

Only going by those numbers, Bubba has the best made cut percentage of the 3 not finishing out of the top 25 of any cut he has made. Woods has 2 wins this year and his obvious record. Phil, I believe, wants to win this more than any other person playing this week.
I don't quite get those numbers, just don't add up or am I being thick.

Bubba - 1 win, 4 top 10's, 9 top 25's, 1 cut = 15 events
Phil - 1 win, 5 top 10's, 7 top 25's, 1 cut, 1 WD = 15 events
Woods - 2 wins, 3 top 10's, 5 top 25's, 1 cut, 1 WD = 12 events

Where do they get those amounts of events from?

Just for fun - let's look at the other groups last 15 events...

Luke - 3 wins, 8 top 10s, 10 top 25s, 0 cuts, 0 wds = 15 events
Rory - 2 wins, 10 top 10s, 11 top 25s, 3 cuts, 0 wds = 15 events
Lee - 3 wins, 8 top tens, 11 top 25s, 0 cuts, 0 wds = 15 events

The number to the left is included in the number to the rigth. So Tigers 2 wins is 2 of his 3 top tens. And the 3 top tens is included in his 5 top 25s. And to add a couple of 30-50 places and 1 WD and 1 missed cut, you have 9 events.
That makes perfect sense, thanks for the clarification.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I don't like this. The U S Open has enough pressure without these forced groupings. Will I watch, of course. Don't really think it's fair to any of them. If it happens in the natural progression of the tournament, thats great. To force it on a thursday/friday is a little to made for tv for me.

Very much agree, well said.

Think the better choice would have been Phil, Tiger, and Rickie Fowler. It is California and that is Ricky's home state. The crowd
might be even bigger!

The way Woods has been playing, he has to be the favorite in this group.
With the course being set up predictable penal, it will also benefit Woods as the long hitters won't have their usual advantage over him.

I was going to post something along the lines of "the big crowds might help any or all of these guys from keepiing the errant drives from becoming VERY errant."

Yep. As I posted in the parallel thread on the Westwood / McIlroy / Donald group, my concern as a golf fan (rather than a fan of a certain player) is coverage monopoly. I really want to see coverage of more than six players.

Here's hoping the minds in charge of TV coverage agree, but I'm not optimistic.

Ping. Play Your Best.

Hey guys,

I'll be attending the US Open at Olympic club on championship Sunday. This will be my first attending such an event :) To those who has experienced attending golf tournament like this, what will be the best strategy to get a shot at getting a good view. Hopefully Tiger, Lefty, Rory and Bubba will make the cut and be grouped close together on Sunday, but I imagine it will be crazy that day. Should I just pick one hole like the 18th, get there early and bunk down? I'd love to follow these guys from the 1st hole, but I don't want to end up way in the back and not see at all. Any tips will be appreciated, I can't wait to see it :)

Lets see how Bubba/Phil like the cell phones in the crowds following that pairing!
Luckily through the grace of God...the USGA has banned them for The Open.

So if it's a problem...the players have every right to voice their disgust.

Now hang on there a sceond...

You can have "The Open Championship" or you can have "The Open". But you can't have both. That's just being greedy (kidding)

or...I could just go back to calling it "The British"

what'll it be?

Never seen this before but due to the proximity of the holes to the clubhouse players will go off holes 1 and 9.
Really!! At Pinehurst No. 10 is about as far from the clubhouse as you can get and they still used it. They ran the players, caddies, offiicials, scorers...etc out there in shuttles. The fans had to make your own way out there which wasn't exactly easy.

I wonder if they found there were issues with the shuttle method versus breaking up the 9's. it seems to me this coudl lead to some very odd circumstances. I don't know what those are, but I'm sure they are sure to arrise.

That's the approach I took last year at Congressional. I got to the 15th hole (if you saw any of last years open then you saw the 18th is basically a semi island green with no great viewing grandstands around it) and got there at like 7:30 in the morning, got in a few minutes early due to having a caddie pass. Got to the bleachers and there was one husband and his wife in the top corner row (exactly where I was going to sit) I went up and joined them. We waited about 3.5 hours for anyone to come through. But we actually had a great time, he had one of the radio's that AMEX passes out so you could hear coverage from other holes, so we rotated listening to that. We made food runs, saw the USGA guys come out to make the hole placement. We were yelling "BACK RIGHT, BACK RIGHT) which was near us and provided a steep drop off to the left.

Watch the NBC commentators I think it was Bob Rossburg come out and roll putss to the pin. Anyway, long story short you will have several hours of down time. But the quality seat when all the groups come through will be worth it.

Now other opens i went to we did sit in the 18th grandstand at the same time, and you were able to see some adjoining holes as well. I don't know how Olympic is structured. you might be able to see the No. 1 tee from the top of the 18th grandstand. or based on the comment earlier in the thread it may be hole 9.

That's just my opinion. But it's the plan I have used for every Open I've been to and never regretted it or felt like I was missing something else.

Right now head to head I think Phil has the advantage over Tiger the last few times the have played together Phil has soundly shot the better score. I do realize that in golf it is here today gone tomorrow. Or more accurate here now gone just now.

So who know. I hope all three tear it up then get paid together all 4 days. then phil shoots a 69 on sunday to finish 1 over and win the US open. I have heard the course is going to be brutal with a + number being the winning score.

They should take away all their clubs but diver wedge and putter. Let them play the weekend regardless of score and set the coverage to whatever tee they are on with pro tracer and club head speed recordings and tell them they have to swing as hard as possible or they lose their cards.

Who am I kidding with tiger and phil being paired together there is no chance we see anyone other than them.

I don't like bubba because he is too religious, and i dont think that mixes well with tiger's... lifestyle. If they had never made the christian golf boys video i'd like all of them a lot more.

I think i agree with a lot of you; Tiger, Phil play well, Bubba mediocre.
Are you serious? You don't like Bubba because his commitment to faith doesn't fit Tiger's philandering, womanizing, homewrecking lifestyle?

Is that really what I just read?

You need help. And the fact that it was given a "rep point" to boot...that person needs help as well.

Hopefully this was a trolling mission.
