Timberlin Golf Course, Berlin CT

I used to love this course but past 2 years I have noticed the course maintenance has gone down hill. I played their a couple of weeks ago and course wasn't in good shape (a lot of brown spots and dirt patches, greens weren't in good condition, etc). Also, the pace of play is awful. The past 3 times I played there it was close to a 5 and half hour round. Anyone else experience really slow play here?

I am going to play there for the first time in a week. I used to hear great things about the course and I will make sure to let you know what my thoughts are after the round.

Id have to disagree here. They just aerated a few weeks ago so the greens have been healing. I played Monday and they seemed to have cut and rolled them and seemed much better.

In terms of the dirt spots, I think they may be doing some maintenance around the course in particular on the low lying areas of the back 9.

I tend to judge courses based on their cost. Timberlin has some of the most reasonable rates out there and for a muni, I think its in really good shape. I guess it's all relative. However it does seem like they get tons of play which I'm sure is wearing on the course as the season progresses.

CTgolfer - you'll have to post your opinion. Our work league moved from southington to timberlin so I may be biased because it's so much better.

I haven't experiences a slow play problem yet but I'm there weeknights.

I like the layout and will probably play there in a month or so. Part of my frustration is a couple of times I had a really good pace going and when I made the turn they let some people who were walking off the back 9. It just seems to me they jam people in here.

I have seen that. They really do try to get everyone out there.

It can be really slow. The start to the back is some what of a log jam (reachable par 5, short par 4, par 3 and then a lay up par 5). Great lay out. Challenging for sure. Not a bad muni track. It is in great shape right now. Greens aren't the quickest on earth but I think they look nice.
