Public Courses in Martha's Vineyard?

Will be spending a couple of weeks at the end of August in Martha's Vineyard (close to Vineyard Haven).

 

From some quick web research, it looks like my only options that are open to the public are Farm Neck and Mink Meadows (9 holes).

 

Any other recommendations/options? Is Farm Neck worth the price tag? Seems to be about $150 for a round plus $50 for cart.

There is really only 1 golf course on Martha's Vineyard, worth playing ... Farm Neck. It's awesome and worth the price tag. The price goes down in September, but you'll be there in August? It's the course that Bill Clinton & Obama frequent. You can see the water from 11 holes. They used to have a late afternoon rate, that was less expensive. Stop at the restaurant for a great dinner. Tell Mis the restaurant manager/Hostess, Brian told you to try the Coconut Pie ... it's spectacular & Mia is a sweetheart.

The Vineyard Club is private and very hard to get on. It's not worth a great deal of effort, in my opinion.

Mink Meadows is just a typical 9 holes .. nothing special.

Edgartown C.C. is a 14 hole, private course. Nice little track, but you probably won't get access.

There's another 6 hole private course on the island, but you won't find it and it's nothing special ... other than you'd be the only one on it.

Last 2 weeks of August is the busiest and least favorite time for islanders ... I won't comment on why. If you need any other advice on the island, just ask. I spent 5 years there, trying to develop another golf course. All you want to know about what Islanders think of golf:

Don't know much about courses on the Vineyard (Brian gave great info above) but there are great courses on the Cape. If you have transportation once you get back to the Cape then there are plenty of courses that are all short driving distances. LOVE the Cape and the islands. Have a blast out there!!

Thanks Chiguy. Have played on the cape for the past few years and really enjoyed some of the courses.

Farm Neck is worth the $. I use to spend my summers on the Vineyard and worked at Farm Neck for many summers. It is walking friendly if you want to go that route and save some money.

 

Yeah I saw Bubba Clinton most every summer he was in office.

 

I use to work maintenance cutting the fairways and greens and was able to get pretty close to him when he was playing if I was working on the course.

You have to play farm meck if you are on the vineyard. Check out spikes lee's digs on the back 9. It has been 10 years since i have been there, but you cant miss it. If i had to guess it was 16, but again, you cant miss it!

Farm neck is worth it for sure, an awesome course in a great location
