Sweetwater Country Club

I was wondering if anybody has played or been a member here recently and what your overall impressions of the club were.

My family were members there back when I was in high school. 36 holes of golf, and the courses are decent. Driving range is horrible. Very small for the amount of members they have and always VERY sandy. In the clubhouse, they have a great men's cardroom and the locker rooms have been improved. They also redid the bar area which has been a nice improvement.

My biggest complaint has always been that there are far too many members. Weekend rounds are always far too long as they try to cram as many groups out as possible. The people are always welcoming and there are always fun social activities. But there are definitely cons along with the pros.

While that may be true, memberships are extremely exclusive and extremely expensive. I've heard initiation is $125,000. I don't know how accurate that is, but comparing that to SWCC is like comparing Augusta National to Houston National ... not even in the same league.

My advice to anyone looking at joining a club is to go pay them a visit, pretend to be very interested at least even if you're just shopping around. They will ALWAYS offer to let you play a round or two. I've never visited a club that didn't. That would be like a car dealer not letting you do a test drive. They ALWAYS do. I'd play the round on a weekend when it's most busy (Saturday) on a day with good weather. That will give you a good idea of what you can expect. And you can also chat with current members and ask them questions and they can address any concerns you may have. The member director is supposed to address the questions, but I don't really trust them. I'd ask members any concerns you may have.

So, to truely know if you might like it, go pay SWCC a visit. I know a guy who's a member. He's likes it. I hate it. Everyone is different.

Thanks for the replies. I recently went out and played and really enjoyed the course and atmosphere but then my wife and I have decided to move to a different area of town (the Woodlands) so am now almost certain that I'll join the Woodlands Country Club. Hope to get a few reviews from a new thread I started on that club.
