Just had a Son!

So I just had a son born 6 weeks ago!

So obviously its too soon, but what age do most kids start golfing? When can they start learning?

I don't know because I started at 25. I dont want to raise the next Tiger woods, just want to share the game with him.

CONGRATS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

My son began beating the ball at 4 with plastic clubs. There's no real time to either start it or not. Just let him have fun with it and either it will take hold...or not!

My son is five and he started coming to the driving range with me last year. He loves it. The little plastic clubs are a good place to start as they can just go out in the back yard and beat a ball around.

Congrats. I coach high school golf and my oldest, 6, goes to practice with me quite a bit, due to her school's ending time and the babysitter. We hit the range a bit and she is already swInging the club real well. Must come from grandpa. I wouldn't start teaching too early. I have worked on her grip and stance only right now. The attention span of most 6 year olds is not very long. I would start giving my child a set of plastic clubs when they are walking and let them have fun with them. Don't push them into anything. Been there and it was not fun. Maybe because the athletic gene skipped me.

I would love for my son (when I have one someday) to be like Tiger when he grows up.
Except for the cheating.....and lying......and poor course attitude.......and cussing.......on second thought I think I change my mind.

Really no time frame and I wouldn't force him. Take him to the range when he is a little older and let him decide whether he wants to play or not. Let him be around you when you are putting at home. My guess is he will want to do whatever daddy is doing.

Congrats on the son. We had our first in Jan. and I am thinking about the same topic. I think that as soon as he can walk and carry things that we will get him some plastic clubs to slap a ball around. We are working on our backyard and going to put in a putting green too. So I imagine there will be some late night putting games. Whatever you do, make it a fun game.

Congratulation. You are in for your best time ever.
My daughter is 3 now and I started to take her to my clubs pay and play course about 8 months ago. I learned pitty quickly that I should forget all about trying to teach her anything. Bought some lightweight toy-clubs for her and just let her run around with them as she pleases. When I take her playing I do not expect to get any play myself. Maybe an occational shot, a chip here and there, almost never any putting because she loves to run in on the green and retrieve the ball to daddy.

All by herself she just started to small shots from the tee-mat using her club more like an icehockey stick. Recently she all of a sudden started to do "full swings" at the ball.

So when I take her we are there on her terms and I just let her have her fun not trying to guide except of course when getting out of the way from other golfers. I found that she picks up most simply from watching. She really, really enjoys our time together when we go "bolf" As she says.
