I bagged a 7+.. ok laugh but I can do pretty much whatever I want with it when I am swinging good...from punching it 200 yards to letting it fly 230+ and land soft. It's shafted with a fujikura sapphire in X and it play d3 @ 42 inches... I cant say enough about this club... hey I'm selling my 970 Trti-46 combo... that pretty much says it all... sorry siteseer..but that 970 has been good to me for many years.

I got a 5+ with a NV85 and its one of my fav clubs almost instantly. Way easier to hit than any 2 iron/hybrid i've tried and I can do anything with it , high, low, cut, draw its the money club. The only down thing i've seen with them is that the head is a little small for my liking (its also my 1st 5 wood, so I may not be used to the size of higher lofted fairway woods) 9/10 easy.

This review is for the Big Bertha Titanium Fairway Woods (2005) not the 2004

image.jpg

Likes: Fairway Wood or Mini Driver (no, not the actress)? That's basically what I think of when I pull this bad boy out of the golf bag. The face of this 3 Wood is huge compared to other 3 Woods like the Taylor Made V-Steel or even the Big Bertha 2004. Also, while the face seems larger, it is a very forgiving Fairway Wood, probably the most forgiving that I have used. Shots off the Toe or the Heel of the club still have some nice distance and are relatively straight. While, this is not my finding, one of my more accomplished golfing friends made the observation that while this club is silly in it's forgiveness, it's very difficult to work a draw or fade on unlike the Big Bertha '04 Fairway Woods or the TM V-Steel. The Stock Shaft, RCH 75w, which I believe is basically an Aldila NV 75 shaft is very nice. I have a slower swing speed (never actually had it monitored) so the Regular Flex fits me perfect.

Dislikes: The Grips. The grips on Callaway Products are love 'em or Hate 'em. I personally hate 'em.

Quality: As with basically anything Callaway, the quality is top notch. No inperfections or blemishes on the club, well, atleast before I used it.

Summary: I love this club and I am looking to purchase the matching 5 Wood. While it is more expensive than alot of the other Fairway Woods that the other companies are offering, I think this club is worth every penny. Off the tee this 3 Wood is a monster and is so forgiving it has probably saved me over 20 strokes with hits off the toe that actually went straight(er) instead of popping up or slicing into the woods.

Thanks,

I have the 4+ and absolutely love it, especially off the tee. It feels awsome and sounds like an old persimmon. Everyone I play with think it's foamed. Whatever, it works. This club is easy to hit high or low, cut or draw. It's also easy to hit off the deck which is something I've stuggled with. Great, great club overall. Finally found a fairway wood I'm gonna stick with. :fool:

bought a 17* 4 wood and put a purple ice 85s in it. these things have a slightly closed face that can turn hook-y if i don't try to control my release. i've learned to open the face and let it right and now it's awesome. dead straight and good for 240-250 yards. started to play from the tips now that i have a reliable 250 club.

You can see below which FW's I have, and which shafts are in them. These clubs get a a qualified 5 stars. Comments:

-Very consistent.

-Accurate, but sometimes I pull them a bit left.

-For me, they fly very straight with little drawing or fading.

-They set up nicely over the ball, however, they look small (especially compared to my driver).

-The sole is well designed - to hit from tight fairway lies or from lousy lies in the rough.

-I gave these a qualified "5 stars" because to me the stock shafts were poor. I am not a hard hitter, and the shafts seemed whippy and lifeless (no kick). New shafts brought these back to life - they played like completely different clubs.

A good fairway metal, also they seem to hold their value quite well on eBay...

Picked up a 5+ off of Callaway's preowned site during the summer. Sets up dead square, and head is surprisingly compact for a Callaway. Face is not deep yet not shallow at the same time, making it ideal from the tee and fairway/rough. I actually find the sole to interact with the rough better than the fairway. The club sounds great with solid contact, making a nick crack rather than a hollow noise that plagues many newer woods. I hit this thing with a mid trajectory, but the stock stiff shaft spins a bit more than I like. I also prefer a heavier shaft in my woods, so a reshaft with an 80g weight would be perfect. 4 stars.

My wife bought me a BB new years ago. I couldn't give it up for sentimental reasons. Even after having 3 newer Taylormade, a BB Mini, another Callaway something, and finally giving up on drivers.

So, what can it hurt, I bring back out the BB and love it. I've got distance, control, feels good, so, go with it. No harm for sure. I'm enjoying my long game off the tee once again.

Then the next crazy idea. I never had the BB 3 fairway, let alone the 7 fairway to match. Of course in my younger year you never bow down to a 7 fairway. So I picked up both, very clean, especially for 17 year old clubs.

For what ever reason, I was never before interested in getting matching sets of woods. I thought I knew better. Haha! Just like irons, I have a consistent feel and predictable ball flight throughout my woods. The 7 fairway IS a great club over a hybrid. What was I thinking!

I'm not concerned about the adjustability of newer clubs, the sole, the weight. I actually like the idea of heavier clubs. Plus they have proven themselves as durable compared to modern clubs that are so light the heads cave in!

So what am I saying. Callaway Big Bertha 2004 woods are great clubs. Actually designed well in the beginning. Love the turf interaction, great ball flight. Oh yes, that ping when they are struck is back! Go for it.

one of my favourite reviews..love the perspective the 9 year wait on the post gives. Just picked up the 16* bb 2004 3w with a lite shaft for 10 bucks ..trying it out tomorrow...hope it outperforms my 2nd generation hawkeye lite  18* 5w that just knocked my 15* first gen HAWKEYE lite 3w out of the bag. Newer stuff is often just for posers.
