Red Tail

Has anyone played Red Tail recently? I heard that the conditions weren't so good recently...

I played it about a month ago or so, course was in good shape but it was very rough around the edges. The greens had been spiked about a month previously, should be good by now if you brave the cold.

Plus one. I played it early. October and it was noticeably different than past visits. I would say the summer months are the best time for best conditions at red tail. Great course nonetheless.

I play it a couple of times a year. I thought the conditions were very spotty this year. I love the course, but at the price I'm not going back many more times if the conditioning isn't brought up a couple of notches.

Anyone play Red Tail this year. Looking to take a day off and playa full 18 and love the course but haven't been in a year.

played redtail about 3 weeks ago. for 99 bucks what a waste. i used to play this course all the time but the greens were just awful. there were quite a few brown/burnt patches and the greens were very slow.

also, the bunkers were in terrible shape as well. many of them had very large rocks in them. if this course continues on status quo then there is no way they can keep charging 99.

I played here earlier this week. I've never seen the greens at a course that charged more than $40 in such poor condition. They were sanded (obviously for a reason), but 2/3+ of them were in horrific condition. Some of the tee boxes weren't even in great condition. The fairways were fine. Pace of play was good.

All in all, I wouldn't spend $100, or even $70 to play on this course this year. Greens were unacceptable. Go to the International instead.

Going to be there ( Devens)in september for 3 days of golf and Patriots and Red Sox
where else would you play ?

Apparently Shaker Hill was just revamped. They have some beautiful looking pictures on their website. You can usually get 5-10% off booking that course on GolfNow.

I recommend The International if you're in that neck of the woods though - it's a perfect public course, though it will run you ~$125 just about whenever you play on it.

Ive played both a couple times this year and tey are both awesome tracks..... Watch for the golfnow deals you can get out there alot cheaper if u dont mind playing in the afternoon.

Man, Red Tail . . . I don't know. I played it a few years ago and it was amazing. Played it again on two occasions this year and it just isn't what it once was. It's a great test of golf at over 7,000 from the back tees but they definitely don't keep it up like they used to. It comes as no surprise that the fairways have a ton of divots in them since it gets a lot of play. No real issue there. But the greens . . . they just aren't what they should be for a premium golf course. They don't all suck, some are still in great shape, but some do suck and the consistency just isn't there. It's a shame because to me the 14, 15, 16 and 17 are just awesome holes. 17 in particular I love. Interestingly, 17 is in amazing shape both tee to green. They probably take a lot of pics of the hole for publicity.

Played Redtail last fall. I just didn't like the layout. It was hokey.
