HARDEST to hit modern iron

I was bored today at work and was wondering what you guys think is the hardest modern iron set to hit consistently. Just for giggles mind you... KZG ZO's, Muira baby blades? What say you?

i remember the maltby playability factor? some strangely difficult to hit cavity clubs high on the list... dont know when he last updated it?

The KZG ZOs took me 3 months to learn to hit. Kept them 10+ years. Really liked them. Once you learn them they aren't hard to play with.

my mp-32's are almost impossible to hit only because my wife keeps them locked up and hidden. Also I thought cleveland cg tours/cg1 tours were tough but fair. I saw 2 new sets in myrtle beach this weekend for cheap. I should have bought them. THe new cleveland 588 I didn't like I don't know if it was because they were hard to hit or what.

I think my macgregor pro mb's are like a 240 or something? I don't get it, they seem fine, 3 iron is a little tough but not brutal

This looks a few years old, but has a pretty good list of irons.

I didn't know that the MPF went into NEGATIVE numbers! What does that mean? No sweet spot? Sweet spot in the hosel?

I would say the RBZ Max or HiBore or FT Ibrid irons are probably the hardest. Seriously. I can't stand to look down at them. They shouldn't even be called "irons" and they look nothing like an iron at address, but more like a little toaster on a shaft.

I'd take a set of Miura Baby Blades any day and twice on Sunday!!

thats classic. But for me, I cannot hit any iron with a cavity. I know it makes no sense, but the most cavity looking club I can hit is the irons I play now, Ap2's. Prior, i had 07 Callaway X Forged, and TM Rac MB TP's. Cavity backs just look to big and bulky for my eye.

On the new MPF list it looks like the Wishon 752 O/S at a 192

Never before heard of the MPF, so I searched the 2011 pdf and found that the Taylor Made Burner SuperLaunch, a club made with the intent to help (SGI) is harder to hit than the CB Tour Preferred irons. According to such guide. LOL!

The first time I met my golf pro, he told me that if the shaft is fitted properly (assuming lie and length here as well), that it really doesn't matter what the clubhead is. Essentially, if the club is fitted properly, then it's as much down to confidence and aesthetic as anything else.

One of the reason people find musclebacks so "hard to hit" is that they're usually found with DGS300s; as you move more GI, you tend to find lighter and more flexible shafts.
Also, demo clubs in MBs are frequently set upright and sometimes over-length.

as far as i'm concerned, a maxfli aussie blade is the toughest by a mile. i hit a t zoid pro 2 iron better than any club in my bag and fancy myself a bit of a ball striker but those things were way too much for me. i took a look at the 2 iron of the guy i played with the other day. The sole of the club was thinner than the hosel.

Not really. They're not G20s or whatever but they ain't bad. I play them occasionally with no issues what so ever.

It's all relative and ironically they're in my Sunday bag

I would say the Nike vr pro blade. More because of the sharp heel than any other reason, there's no forgiveness on the lie angle. A rolled heel design let's you get away with coming in to the ball at the wrong angle a little more.

Agreed, I saw these in a pro shop recently and asked aloud if anyone could hit these? One of the pros there said, "Tiger." It looked like you could shave with them.

The Kzg ZO blades can be pretty tough to hit, not because they lack forgiveness across the face, but because of the negative bounce. There is ZERO room for error, hit them slightly fat and the balls going half way!

I received one of those RBZ 5 irons in their giveaway, and had to give it away to a junior golfer. How one can get the sweet spot of the clubhead onto the back of the ball appropriately with that much club between the ground and the ball's equator boggles me.

The reason that the TM R7 draw irons received a low MPF rating is because they moved mass towards the heel, shortening the "C" dimension (the Cg location relative to the hosel). So in order to strike those irons on the sweet spot, you have to come closer to shanking them. The R7 draw also had a relatively high Cg location, which also lowers the MPF rating.

The manufacturers intent on moving mass toward the heel was that on center strikes, there would be a twisting of the clubhead open which will induce gear effect draw spin. The problem with this idea is that eventually players get feedback from their clubs which conditions them to strike the club on the sweet spot, in this case, very close to the hosel.

So draw biased irons is overall a bad idea, IMO.

Titleist 670MB's, "1st edition", modern, yet a few years old. They were later modified to make them easier, but... I had them in the bag for 3 yrs. When I was down at Titleist, I was told approx. 21 guys on tour had them in the bag, with Ernie Els the star. They were tough to master.
