New England Course Conditions

Many of the course around New Haven seem to be open like Grassy, Woodbridge, etc. They're all already charging full price too which is pretty ridiculous.

I'll be in the Boston area next week.

Can someone suggest me any course already opened for the season I can play on March 27?

I know many courses will open on March 29.

Everything reachable within 1/1.5 hrs by car from Boston is ok with me.

Meadow Brook (RI) opened Friday (3/22).

Elmridge in Pawcatuck, CT just over RI border is open also. 27 holes there.

Played Grassy Hill in Orange yesterday and it was in surprisingly decent shape. Greens rolled pretty true, no aeration nor fuzziness. Still, it was 30 degrees, course was empty, and they're charging full price.

Conversely, played a 9 at Orange Hills today, another full price round only their greens were atrocious. Bumpy, fuzzy, aeration holes, overall I was not happy paying what I did for those conditions. The tee boxes were nice though.

I bought one last year and never was able to use it. :unamsued:

Played Newport National yesteday. Little cold, quite windy, got a wind burn on my face. Greens are still furry and slow. Fairway in good condition. Gold tees moved forward (some of them on green teeing location). Definitely worth the $40 for pre-season play, if it weren't for the schmoes in front of us not knowing the right way to do 'cart path only' and take a few clubs you may need.

FYI - Your groupon never expires, you can still go there and put $60 towards a round or towards pro shop credit. Makes buying a couple a no brainer in my opinion.

100% positive you can still redeem it for its cash value. You paid $60 for it so you can bring it to the club and put that $60 towards a full price round. Its promotional value is the only thing that expires.

Played crystal lake Sunday and Lincoln cc yesterday

Crystal lake was in awesome shape except 11 and 12. 11 90% of the green was covered in snow 5% had standing water. 5 was playable. Normally I wouldn't care but don't charge 50$ to play if 2 holes are unplayable 12 the entire fairway was covered.

Lincoln was in great shape. Greens were in mid season form minus two small bare patches in the 4th green

[/quote]It's about 6 miles of walking total. Not much in the way of steep hills, but many holes have grades to them as being built on hills. Nothing in the way of 'big' hills to climb or decline, most are gradual. I walk it with a push cart.
