New England Course Conditions

[b]Quarry Ridge (Portland, CT)[/b] - played yesterday, greens were punched and sanded, but only $42 for 18 with cart and they gave $5 restaurant coupon. Not sure if that was compensation for the greens, but for the price not bad.

[b]Timberlin (Kensington, CT)[/b] - played today, course is in very good shape, greens rolling nicely.

[b]Shaker Hills[/b] - Played 8/10. Some greens were in poor shape others were beautiful. Several holes had GUR around greens and apron. The course is in decent shape overall perhaps somewhat disappointing for $89.

Pequot Golf Course - No. Stonington

It's short and has it's warts, but Pequot's greens are in very good shape and the course is playing fair. If they can only get some of the new sand into all of the bunkers.

[b]Rolling Meadows (Ellington, CT)[/b] - tee boxes were punched, but the greens were rolling pretty well. There was some patchy spots in the fairway, but they've had quite a bit of rain. I think it was a solid course for $55 w/ cart on the weekend. Definitely worth the mid $30's for the ezlinks times.

Blackstone 8/17 - Sutton Ma,

Course was ready for the club championship this weekend and it was in fantastic shape. the greens were rolled twice late this week and are running at about 10.5-11. i wish the greens were always like this! every putt rolled true and smooth. couldnt have been happier.

FYI: August 20th they will be AERATING!!!!

I was there yesterday as well. And although my front nine(actually the back we started on 10) was abysmal. I'll agree. Course was in decent shape. Not the best in the area but nice. The greens were very receptive but lightning fast. I would think they were after than what you say they were.

Nice course but not worth what they are asking IMHO

Does anyone have experience with Ridgefield Golf Club or Candlewood Valley Country Club? My buddy and I will be playing one of them tomorrow but have never been to either. Which is worth the 50 minute drive?

for $75 peak ($65 earlybird), those types of greens, GPS on golf carts, ample spacing between tee times and the challenge of the course...i dont think you can noticeably beat that anywhere in the area.

But the course was a little too gimiky for me.

I didn't like all the extreme downhill holes.

[b]Richter Park (Danbury, CT)[/b] - Played today. Was surprisingly crowded for a late Monday afternoon (we teed off at 3). Still were able to finish in a little over four hours with a bunch of walkers ahead of us. Course is in great shape! Greens roll true, relatively quick, very few ball marks, and no burnt out patches that I can remember. Fairways are in good shape, tightly mown, and no bare patches! Bunkers had real sand in them and were raked nicely. Overall probably the best conditions I've played this year! Shot 1 over on the back too which was nice. Well worth the drive and wish it were closer as I'd be playing there often!

Played in the one day at CT National yesterday. First time out there, but I'll definitely be back. Greens were rolling perfect, and they were firm on approach shots. A few burnt out spots in the fairways on high spots but nothing unplayable. Great great course!

Played Shaker Hills last week. Very good course and fast greens. It's pricey for my taste (prob won't go back) but a nice course and club house.

Conn national was in great shape, didnt realize it was so inexpensive. Greens are very firm, almost unplayable for mid to high handicaps with the pin locations they had set up. I think everyone should give this course a look.

Played Sable Oaks in South Portland ME for the first time on Sat and it was an awesome course.... Best greens ive played all year and ive played a ton of expensive courses.... Tough layout but a great course and an even better deal, $60 for 18 riding on the weekend.

I played there on Sunday with her dad and some other folks. Meg came along but she just practiced. Great course at a very reasonable price!

Played the course earlier this year during a business trip. I rented clubs, but the price was still reasonable. The only trouble I ran into was of the local knowledge design, taking too much club off the tee a couple of times. But I'd definitely go back

[b]Lyman Orchards Player Course (Middlefield, CT)[/b] - Played today. Awful is an understatement. Every green was burnt out, fuzzy, full of ball marks, and every cup was damaged. The fairways were in fairly poor condition as well with bare patches rampant. The tee boxes, besides having some crab grass, were at least relatively flat. The round took about 5.5 hours which is ridiculous. Overall the place should be avoided like the plague until they can get their act together.

Geoangus- I totally agree.... The worst was the hole on the back nine after the par 5 where you have to walk over the bridge to the green and bring your driver for the next tee shot.... That hole was unbelievably narrow there was really no warning by just looking at the sign next to the tee box.

Brookside club (Bourne, MA) was in very good shape on August 25. A few fairways on the back still had aeration holes that hadn't filled in completely. Greens rolled very true. A fun target-golf course.

Since I run a golf league that plays there, figured I'd pass this along. Stow Acres in Stow MA aerated the North course this Mon/Tues and will be doing the South course early next week. I'm playing Butternut across the street this Saturday and I've heard it's not in great shape, but then again it usually isn't.
