8/31/13 - Acushnet River Valley - Was in good condition. Greens not punched yet, some fairways are. Bunkers were hit or miss with some having rocks, some not. Fairways a bit beat up in spots with lots of shade and varying softness for divots (some really hard ground, some soft that you can throw a wedge right under). Greens were consitently fair, but slower than I'm used to there.

Sterling Farms (Stamford, CT) - Course is in good shape! First time playing it today and it is in excellent shape. Greens are firm but roll quick and true. Fairways are in good shape. A very few bare patches along the cart paths but overall a very impressive little course. I have never seen a course with so many marshals, rangers, and other various staff keeping the pace up. We had a slow foursome and still finished in just under 4 hours. I cannot believe it's a muni and I will definitely be back.

FYI Called for a tee time at Mohegan Sun CC today but they are punching.

Booked Wintonbury (Bloomfield, CT). Got an email from the course saying that they don't punch in September and their greens are perfect. I'll post with conditions this weekend to see if they lived up to their marketing.

Blackledge - Anderson Course Hebron, CT 9/7/13

Course was in great shape. A couple of the greens seemed inconsistent in speed, but they were in great shape and rolled true. Fairways were also in good shape. If this is indicative of their normal conditions, this is a real sleeper. Too bad the course wasn't a little closer to home, I'd play it more often.

Portland Golf Course (Portland, CT) - Played today, greens were in pretty good shape just a touch slow. Not punched yet but probably soon. Fairways were really torn up in a lot of spots, which was disappointing. Only consolation was that it was a $25 deal from golf now. For that price I'm willing to look past quite a bit, at twice the price maybe not.

Rehoboth county club. Played it saturday. You can tell they've put the money and effort into the greens... the fairways are ... ummm not good. However every green was in spectacular shape.

Shot an 81. Pretty happy with that.

yup played a quick 9 before the pats sunday
disgusting fairways...there was literally NO advantage to being in the fairway...numerous time i hit it straight away of the tee and had trouble finding it in the fairway...disgustiong...too bad cause the greens were phenominal, but tee boxes anf fairways are gross...too bad cause I like the layout

Considering where they were a couple years ago with the greens, it's nothing short of spectacular. I believe that next year will be a banner year for Rehoboth when they get they fairways under control.

Played Newport National Today. Fantastic condition everywhere. Greens are rolling spectacularly and rather quick. Took me off guard in the beginning as I shot a 40 in the front. The 47 in the back was just me having some swing issues off the tee and the greens continuing to be rather quick. :D

Played Meadow Brook in RI last Sunday. One of my new favorite courses. Had an absolute blast there and the course was in good shape. Greens were rolling great. Fairways were a touch on the shaggy side and there were a few low areas near drainage that were pretty muddy or thinned out. Other than that, no complaints. I'll definitely be back!

Ballymeade Country Club (Falmouth, MA) - DON'T PLAY IT unless you can get on for free. I paid $37 for 18 w/ cart and felt like I was swindled. I don't know how they survive. I feel bad for the people who bought little mini mansions on the property. I can deal with patchy fairways to an certain extent, but the greens here were all patchy. It seems like they were losing many of them. It's too bad, as there are some interesting holes. The nicest grass on the property is the croquet court near the clubhouse.

Blue Rock (Yartmouth, MA) - punched greens about a week and half ago and they are long and shaggy. They do a good job though and typically in a couple weeks they should be running nicely again.

Blackledge - gilead course 9/16

immaculate shape...can be had on weekends 45$ w a cart on golfnow...what a steal!! a bit of a drive for me but well worth it.

only complaints are temporary green on 5 due to overly wet green (obviously a problem since they have a permanent fan on the green) and the tee boxes are shaggy and spotty...but fairways, bunkers, and greens were gorgeous...

playing CT national sunday...will report back

Portland Golf Course (Portland, CT) - Played it on Sunday. Fairways were patchy in spots as were the tee boxes. Greens were in decent shape BUT they began punching them midday behind us so the greens are now aerated. I would probably avoid it for a couple of weeks until they can heal a bit.

Hawks Landing (Southington, CT) - Played today. Greens were probably punched a week or two ago but have healed nicely. The practice green still has holes though. Course is in decent shape. Few patchy spots on some fairways and tee boxes but overall in pretty good shape. The GolfNow and EzLinks deals are definitely worth it to play if you're in the area.

Played Blackledge Gilead/Highlands combo yesterday. The upper 9(Highlands) was in good shape. Greens had small punches but they rolled well and were pretty quick. The green on #4 was open, but it was more like putting on a fairway. They have had issues on this green all year. The other 9 was in pretty good shape. Greens were not punched at all and also rolling great.

I heard it is very difficult to walk that course...is that true?

Played there twice walking. Didn't seem to notice any difficulty.

Mohegan Sun CC (Baltic, CT) - good condition, looks like they punched a few weeks ago and are healed at this point. There was some GUR around the greens and patchy spots, but for the most part nice shape. The fairways were really nice. I like the look of the course with the long grass around the bunkers. It's and odd course though. It's got resort course grooming, but you can still tell it was a takeover, kinda like putting lipstick on a pig. That's definitely an exaggeration, but I'm just comparing with the feeling I get at LOI and Fox Hopyard which are similar locales and prices.

Lyman Orchards Player Course (Middlefield, CT) - Played today. Awful is an understatement. Every green was burnt out, fuzzy, full of ball marks, and every cup was damaged. The fairways were in fairly poor condition as well with bare patches rampant. The tee boxes, besides having some crab grass, were at least relatively flat. The round took about 5.5 hours which is ridiculous. Overall the place should be avoided like the plague until they can get their act together.

Lyman Orchards Jones Course (Middlefield, CT) - I'm not sure why I keep going back to this place. Played the Jones Course yesterday and it is in terrible shape. The place was packed too on a Friday and the round took well over 5 hours. We drove off after 16 because we both had dinner arrangements to get to. Greens are spotty, very fuzzy, and still healing from being punched. Some holes were too large for the cups as well so the cups had excess room within the holes. I'm not even sure how that happens. Tee boxes are awful. I won't be going back again this season. Billy Casper Golf should be ashamed of themselves for ruining a once pretty well maintained course.

I remember, back when I played maybe two rounds a year, this course being so superior to other public courses in the area. It really is too bad to see it slide so badly.

Definitely. It's fallen pretty hard. It's funny but I think their new little par 3 has nicer greens than both big courses.
