Some help needed please on X-100's

About 1 year ago I purchased a second hand set of 710 MB with X-100's at 1/4" over std. I loved the clubs and the shaft felt a perfect fit for me.

 

A few weeks ago I purchased a new set of 712 MB with X-100's at std length and they feel much stiffer and pretty dead compared to my 710 MB's

 

Would the 1/4" "soften" the X-100's enough to notice it?

 

Could the 710 MB's have been soft stepped and if so how could I tell this visually?

 

Also, few years a I was fitted for a set of MP67's with PX6.5 at 1/2" over std and they felt perfect

 

How do PX 6.5 compare to X-100?

 

Would it make sense for me to change the X-100's out of my new 712MB's and fit PX6.5?

 

My 6 iron swing speed is approx. 92/93mph and distance is approx 187 yds

 

Although PX shafts feel a little harsh to me in short irons, they feel quite good in Mizuno's, possibly because of their very soft feel

 

Any advice appreciated becasue I have a new set of 712 MB's which I now hate!!!

This may help you indentify what shaft you have in your irons or if they have been soft stepped.

1/4 will make them softer, but its next to nothing, but check swing weight. IF SW value is higher on the set with 1/4 over length, thats the answer. 1 SW point extra weaken the shaft by 1 CPM - 3 CPM equals to soft stepping 1x
Add a strip of lead tape to the standard lenght set, and FEEL head weight and feedback from impact
Higher SW - more solid feel of impact


How to see if they are soft stepped ?
Measure the length of the tip section from the last step and down to the top of the hosel on your #9 iron , then compare them
If one set is soft stepped, tip will be 0.5 longer on the soft stepped shaft, or equal to the tip length of your #8 iron unstepped.

PX 6.5 is stiffer butt side, but weaker in the mid than DG X100
Butt FCM compare say PX 6.5 is 7.0 and DG X100 is 6.8 ( 2 CPM apart)

PX will launch higher, and have less spin, so depending on wind, and your ability to stop the ball, both options might work good.
92/93 is average on the tour and x100 is the most common shaft, but thats not the same as this is the best option for you and your swing.
