First Aid Kit?

A post in another thread (http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/754055-got-hit-by-a-ball-yesterday/page__st__90#entry6257193) got me thinking about some of the really nasty things I have seen or read about that can happen on a golf course. I am prepared for the simple stuff (bandaids, aspirin, etc.) but not much more than that.

 

What first aid supplies to you carry in your bag?

Band aids, foam tape, aspirin, cell phone for emergencies

i carry some anti acids and some tape, thats about it. i should carry an epi pen(bee stings) but i dont. i havent ready any other threads indicating bad things happening on a golf course. but thinking about it you have pretty much everything on a golf bag to do alot of first aid. towel for packing a wound, strings to fashion a tourniquet. shafts to stabilize a break. and a pocket to hold a cell phone if you get attacked by zombies.

The basics......but in both cars I have full blown trauma bags. I can treat anything from a headache to a severed limb or gun shot.

I just have a few basics, superglue for cuts or torn skin, ibuprofen for pain/inflammation, antihistamines for allergies and a couple of bandaids for good measure.

I always have my mobile (cell) phone too, just in case!

A couple of things that I don't really count for first aid but more for prevention are sunscreen SPF30+ and plenty of hydrating fluids.

In the climates that I tend to play in keeping hydrated and protected from the sun are super important!

I played in a tournament in SE Asia a couple years ago and the "Tee gift" was a neat little First Aid kit containing most of the basic stuff you would need on a golf course...Band Aids, Iodine, pain killer pills, elastic bandage wrap, blister pads, wet swabs and some gauze bandages. I just threw it in my bag and carry all the time.........Like most things "The better you are prepared, the less you need the stuff"

funny i see this thread. ive always carried a first aid kit (just a small one) but cleaning out my bag the other day i said "why do i have this here? what can go wrong on the course?"... however its light enough i kept it in there. i live by the motto "id rather not need it and have it than need it and not have it." It has assorted bandages, gause strips, topical ointments and tylanol. I also keep a roll of medical tape for when my calouses turn into blisters. with the mention above, im going to carry some antacids as well.. great idea.

I always have hand tape and Advil, that's pretty much it. I've never ran into a situation on the course that tape and Advil can't fix.

We're playing golf, not large game hunting, how dangerous can it get?

Definitely carry blister pads and an extra shoelace-- they weigh almost nothing and when you need them, you really need them. You'll be glad they are in your bag.

Tweezers, athletic tape, "band aids", gauze pads, an antiseptic ointment, superglue and some sort of eye wash for sand/grit in the eye.

Some one already mentioned an epi-pen for those allergic to insect stings. For those who are not allergic but want to reduce the discomfort a bee sting inflcts, carry [i]Sting Foe. [/i]It does exactly that, qiuckly reduces the pain of a sting. Sting Foe is a brand name; similar products are out there under other names.

This is a great post and got me thinking of what could go wrong on a golf course. Many things can go wrong, this is what comes to mind:
Loss of vitals: gotta know cpr and be nice to have one of those mouth to mouth resuscitation masks.
bee stings: epi pen
snake bite: snake bite kit. Heard too many rattlers while looking for lost balls.
dehydration and sun exposure: good to have a gatorade and sunscreen
antacid: sometimes those hotdogs at the turn can get nasty on you.
blisters and cuts: bandages, tape, and moleskin because they are light and easy to pack.
everything else?: mobile phone. 911 or proshop can get someone out to you pretty quickly.
