Why golf is great

I went out to my local Muni Wednesday and played 9. Full size course although not really long. I took my Titleist Sunday bag with 7 clubs...

Driver

20* Hybrid

5 iron

7 iron

9 iron

56* wedge

putter

 

My driver is a new 913D3 and I was trying the 910 Ahina 72S but I had never played it before. I also putted cross-handed, which I had done one time 3 months ago (and then only on 5 holes).

 

Perfect weather here in AZ - 75* and sunny with no wind.

 

Played by myself and shot 2 under - with a bogey on the first hole.

 

Stats:

 

1/7 fairways

5/9 greens

10 putts - holed 2 from off the green - so I guess chip ins with the putter

3 birdies and 1 bogey

The 3 birdie putts were from about 25, 40, and 20 feet - 2 of them off the green

 

I have not had any revelations. I have not changed clubs nor do I want to. In fact, I just laughed each time I made a putt and went to the next hole. I thought about other stuff when I was walking and just enjoyed a peaceful hour and a half away from everything.

 

It just goes to show that when emotions are in check, expectations are low, and putts go in the hole - your score can be very good. I always hear it with Tour players saying "I just need to get out of my own way". So true. I just played and stayed out of my own way.

 

BTW - I am a 2 HC and a pretty average to below average iron player. Playing only 3 irons made me play shots and not swing. I had to hit 5 from 160 because I am not a huge hitter - choke down 3/4 draw - middle of the green...

 

It was probably just a lucky day, so I am going to try and just enjoy it, but also try to remind myself how fun that was - and even though the score may not repeat itself each time - the fun feeling can...

Great read. I've had some great times playing terrible but just walking around and being alive made it fun.
