Practiced this afternoon with my buddy JR. His MP-33 4 iron against my 24* hybrid.
I was losing our match. I then used his 4 iron. All I can say is WOW! Consistently longer and straighter!
I also hit his 6 iron and 8 iron, with the same better results, over my MX-25's.
I've said this before, nothing has ever felt as balanced or performed as well as Mizuno MP-33's.
Just when I told my wife my bag is set!

update:
Today, had all my lies checked. They were all over. Now properly fitted, my irons are performing nicely.

However, a couple of hours ago, I recv'd a call from a friend who has a set of MP-33's, in good condition and a great price.
I will check them out tomorrow.

I missed out. Clubs were sold! Just as well, my MX-25's are now dialed in.
Still, I always wanted MP-33's. I will probably re shaft my TP-9's to my specs.

UPDATE: Probably not!

Today came across , maybe the best deal of all time, MP-33's online through Edwin Watts. My wife, looking over my shoulder, whispered "Happy Birthday"!
Finally, my favorites are on their way.

What's a like new set of MP 100s worth. All they have is bending marks, used maybe 3 rounds?

Finally, I now have the classic set of Mizuno blades! After checking lofts and lies, a few practice sessions will be needed to dial them in. Such beautiful balance.
I will report my findings after taking them to the course. I expect them to replace my MX-25's.

update:

Based on today's practice....they have replaced my MX-25's. Need to work on my 4iron, and the 3iron may not make it to the course.

The 33's are great clubs if you can hit the sweet spot. Played them for 5 years and recently went to the MP-63's which I absolutely love.

Have also played 14's and 29's in the past (now I'm dating myself).

Keep in mind the shaft is an important piece of the equipment and different swing weights can also produce different results.

latest update: Didn't feel right. Side by side, on the course, the 62's with DG S300 superlite shafts were ballooning and felt like they didn't compress the ball!
My MP 33's with DG S300 shafts, allowed me to feel the weight in my swing. Compression and penetrating traj. Distance the same, but tighter dispersion.
MP 33's are back in my bag! I may reshaft the 62's at some point.

I purchased a used set of 33's about 9 months ago.
They sat in my garage until the last 2 months; now after hitting them for the last couple of months, I can't believe how sweet these irons are.
Initially I thought it might just simply be that my swing improved significantly...but then I went back to my 850 F's for a bit, and (for me) these are a much better option.

I purchased a used set of MP-4's at the same time I bought the used MP-33's, and played them for 2-3 months...they were solid irons, but the 33's are far superior (for me and my swing).

I thought the MP-4's were beautiful clubs, but while I liked them, I wasn't blown away by them.

These 33's, I am blown away by. They don't look anywhere near as nice as some other irons out there, but they are really great irons.

This is a really old thread; any of the folks who loved these way back when still gaming them?
What are your thoughts on these older 33's compared to the newer irons available today?

I bought a set of new old stock MP 69s about a year ago. Really like them but didn't want to wear them out on the driving range. I hit a lot of balls off sandy grass and mats, hard nasty range balls. So I bought a single MP 33 six iron last week just for that purpose. I hit 150 balls with that six iron yesterday and immediately went home and bought a set of 33s on EBay. Don't get me wrong, the 69s are wonderful clubs, but I had to have the 33s and bought them in great shape for $150. Now I'm waiting for them to arrive in mail. Can't wait - there was something extremely special about them. Solid soft contact with a pleasing thump and a piercing trajectory. The iron also framed the ball very well. I used to laugh when I read the ridiculous blabbering comments about how great the 33s are/were until I hit that iron. Everybody was telling the truth.

Don't see them ever leaving the bag.

And your signature shows that you're playing the 690 MB's. Great club but not the 33. I've played Mizuno blades since 1988 when I bought a set of 7's. I bought the 33's when they came out in '99 and played them until I bought the 60's in 2006. Took 7 years off, bought a set of 64's and played them until I picked up the MP 4's early this year. Just for the hell of it, I took the 33's out for a test run. The 4's are in big trouble. The 33 may be the best golf club ever made. Easy to hit, high powerful ball flight and they listen when you talk to them. Shot 74 the other day with 14 greens. Put the 33's back in the bag and save the wear on the 690's for another day. Let me know when you card a 69!

Just bought a set of MP-33's off eBay. 9.5/10. Selling my 4's. The 33's are the best club Mizuno ever made. And I don't care about the lofts. I'm happy to give up the 2 yards in distance loss.

Did a head to head competition. The 4's are 1/2" long and have XP shafts. They are more than a club longer than the 33's. Having said that, I can hit the MP-33 3 iron better than I hit the MP-4 5 iron. Pure butter and perfect flight. I made the right decision.

I just bought a set of the MP 33's at my local box store, they're easily an 8/10, maybe 8.5/10, have original Mizuno grips. Guy checked the loft/lie and they're spot on standard specs...and the best thing is that they were on sale for $99. I bought them immediately! Wooohooo! I used old Wilson staff blades when I was younger and love blades, can't wait to use these!!! How about that for a deal!

I actually like weaker lofts, they're too jacked up now, 45* PW's nowadays? All so average golfers can beat their chests and say they hit a PW from 150. Well, Johnny Miller, one of the greatest iron players of all time, played a 7 iron from 150!!!!!!!!!!

I've been playing and loving my Miura CB 57's.  My back up travel set has been the MP 64's with that wonderful sole grind.  Recently, I've been working harder on my ball striking and the results have been good enough that I decided to take my pristine set of MP 33's out for a fun round.   To my total and complete surprise the MP 33's immediately became my new primary irons.  I absolutely can't believe how sweet they are and how consistently straight they allow the ball to fly with a slight draw or fade.   I was fully prepared to put them back in the box as treasured keepsakes of a bygone era that just weren't forgiving enough in this day of advanced tech irons.  Now I'm looking for another set of pristine MP 33's for the day I wear a hole in the vaunted Mizzy sweet spots.  A real plus is looking down at that beautiful surgical super thin top edge that I used to find so intimidating.  Now it just inspires confidence.  Who knew?
