Overrated foods... That others love

For me:

 

Lobster. Everyone seems to love it, and I love seafood. But I find that lobster is a little too rich and sweet for my taste. And I've had it as fresh as fresh can get (my father in law has hooped it and cooked it for me the same day)....

 

Lamb. I'm married to an Armenian, and they know how to cook it. I've had it at many weddings and parties, and at its best, it tastes like, well, lamb.

i despise sushi....i just don't get the obsession with it. It's raw fish!

I could eat indian food every day for the rest of my life. Vindaloo, Rogan Josh, Madras, Dhansak, Butter Chicken, Curry, Tikka Massala....any of that with meat samosas and naan.

I had raw lamb with my lebanese friend...

It was raw.

I don't like lobster, but it's a texture issue.

I'm also off bread, having been focused on the paleo diet recently... it's just bland when you don't eat it much.

Mushrooms, eggs, ham, chicken on the bone, crab legs, calamari...blecch!

I don't have a sense of smell, so a lot of my food tastes go by texture.

At the same time, I like sushi. Probably has more to do with the mixture of rice than the actual raw protein.

How do you feel about Supertramp? Seriously though, I find crab legs a lot like lobster. A waste of time. Dare a lobster fan to eat it without dipping it salted butter.

When I read the thread title I thought, papaya, cheesecake, iced coffee (basically anything from Tim Horton's), sugar pie (yeah that's an actual thing), and Glenfiddich.

I love good sushi. Sometimes fish tastes less fishier raw or seared (salmon)...

I make crepes about once a month and Nutella is a staple with them..... It' really good. I don't know about loading up on it in the college cafeteria, but I do know I used to stockpile food I pilfered from my college meal plan. Mainly cereal and sandwich stuff. I would just have a ziploc bag with me and fill it up with whatever looked good for the dorm fridge.

I can pretty much eat everything (and have) but for the life of me, don't get the attraction to Chinese food. Will never eat it. Bad experience with chop suey I suppose...

Jeff - no sushi? Love that stuff (as does the wife. Never really ate it beforehand). Helps that we have some solid places to choose from. No gas station sushi for me...

1. Sushi: I like some of it in small doses (only the rolls really), but I can't eat a lot of it. It makes a good appetizer though.

2. Lobster/crab: I really like it, but I don't get why it's the "pinnacle of gourmet food". It's good, but it's not the greatest thing in the world.

3. Chinese food: I'm not into it either, just not my thing. I do love a good stir fry though.

4. Nutella: it's chocolate you can spread on stuff, what's not to like?

5. Indian food: I grew up in the uk, I could live off of Indian food, I'm with Jeff on that one!

6. Scotch: higherground, give sipping scotch a go, it's kinda sweet and really nice, but you have to drink it properly or else it tastes like wood varnish.

My vote: pork and ham. I find ham really salty and don't love the texture. And while I've had good pork before I've had a lot of dry tasteless pork in my life.

Coke/Pepsi...stuff is so bad for you, esp. the Diet versions. So much sugar and the phosphoric acid in it rots your teeth. Yum.....

Ribs....gnawing the flesh off of bones disgusts me, and I love meat, just don't do ribs.

Papaya....I love all fruits but I cannot get with papaya. It smells like vomit and tastes like it too.

Chinese food(real is awsome) none of that egg roll, wun tons, sweet sour chicken crap. The real deal like you get in China served with a shot of Fire Water after.

Indian food, I can do.

Pork, I'm about to leave Hawaii and will miss the kalua pork big time. They do it right here. Also since I have only had pork 3 or 4 time in the last several months my mouth is watering just thinking about it. On a diet that concist of lean protein.

Alcahol: never been a drinker so I would say thats over rated.

Sea Food, I grew up on the ocean so I love it and can eat it every day of the week.

I have been around the world and have tried many things, I think the worst thing I have tried is either Balut (Koreans loved them when I was there) or the friend centipede (Chinesse don't seem to mind them).

I agree with the sushi. Once coming back from Japan I haven't been able to eat sushi here. Just isn't the same. I also paid $64 for one little piece of sushi, couldn't taste the difference so didn't bother with the $236 piece

Overrated has to be caviar. No one likes it

100% agree on Cilantro...... I pick it out of salsa at Mexican restaurants.

Actually just made some turkey bacon for breakfast. Not so much the healthiness, but the wife doesn't eat pork or beef and making two kinds is a PITA. I love going to Cracker Barrel or pretty much any other breakfast place for the real thing.

I think lobster and crab has already been discussed, those are certainly on my list. Another is Foie Gras. I studied in France for 4 months and the entire time they raved about it. It is seriously nasty stuff. Tastes like cat food. Not to mention the color (yellowish brown) and texture (can get kind of like clay) just gross me out. I mean c'mon people, is duck liver....

A local fare which I can not stand is Skyline Chili. Um first off, whatever that s*** is sitting on top of a plate of noodles is not chili. It looks and smells like baby diarrhea. It's got a bunch of cinnamon or something in it. Whatever's it is, I would never consider it Chili and it tastes like vomit. All the Cincinnati people act like its god's gift.... Um sorry, no.

I must also turn in my man card and admit that I cannot stand bacon. I've tried it many, many times and cooked in a variety of ways, and I just don't understand all the love. It's weird because I adore nearly all other meat products. As mentioned above I think the "fatty-ness" of bacon is the biggest reason for my disdain.

Hmmm this is a tough one for me because I am a serious foodie!

Exotic toppings on pizza. It's f*cking pizza! Put some cheese, some pepperoni and call it good! I don't want bay scallops, truffles or 10 year old Manchengo cheese.....

My wife just told me Caviar. Never had it but then again I never had the urge to have it.

That's all I can think of for now. I know there are more out there.

BTW sushi is actually referring to the rice, not the raw fish. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle

^^^ i'm also not crazy about weird pizza toppings...The worst is going to a place famous for their pizza and then looking at the menu, seeing 20 different options and none look good because of that. It's like "are you guys to good to just do pepperoni and italian sausage?

Good example of a food I consider overrated.

Bacon is one of the most beloved foods out there, but I don't love it. I'll eat it if it's there at a family breakfast or when we're camping, but I'll never order it or make it.

And I also agree with Ship and Jeff when it comes to pizza. I want chicken and ranch on my salad, not my pizza. Bbq sauce on my ribs or brisket, not my pizza, etc... Gimme sausage, peperoni, and maybe mushrooms.

Same with everything else I mentioned. I'll eat it, but I don't see what people rave about.
