Overrated foods... That others love

I cannot stand salad. It tastes like sour paper to me. I loathe dressing and pretty much anything with vinegar in it. I also won't eat white condiments. They look too much like mayonnaise which disgusts me!

Why type when you don't have to? Can't stand salad, but dig all other vegetables. And mayonnaise? Nastiest stuff ever.

Sushi is good to me....just not with the spicy mayonnaise.

ALL sushi should have been frozen at one point before it's served. It's the only way to kill off any nasties that may be in the fish.

Also seconding Pat's and Geno's in Philly. The only time to eat at either is if you're a tourist and want a (crappy, but the name!) cheesesteak or you're hammered drunk.

I'm gonna add another thing. Milk. Regular old milk. I can't drink it. On the rare ocassion I have cereal it's fine and in coffee but no frosty glasses of milk for me. I used to drink it all the time as a kid but no more.

Mayo is another good one for me. Used sparringly, it's ok--maybe adds to a sandwich. But most people I know bathe their sandwiches/burgers in the stuff. My best friend puts a lot of it on meatball/cheese subs from Subway--wtf, yuck.

Less is more, kinda like make up.

ALL sushi should have been frozen at one point before it's served. It's the only way to kill off any nasties that may be in the fish.

Milk is horrible. No way no how would I drink that crap.

I like spicy though. there are a lot of sauces out there that can enhance the flavor without being overpowering. I'm a pepper junkie though and my cayenne's are awesome!

For anyone that lives in Texas: Salt Lick BBQ....used to be great, now it tastes like rubber.

Oh and the craze for Chipotle really gets me....all the ingredients for a burrito there are so bland...no seasoning, hardly anything with taste. And NO refried beans or spanish rice for a BURRITO PLACE??!!!??? wtf dude. Im out.

I like some spice, but I'm with the others on the "so spicy it makes you sweat and cry" stuff, I don't see the point! Also not a huge prime rib fan, I'll take a good steak over prime rib any day.

Always interesting and amusing to hear what people won't eat and why.

I like to share this story of a visit to my step-mom who lives in Florida. She invited us to go out with her "gang" of retirees for their weekly group restaurant outing. "We're doing Chinese this week." she said. Awesome, we love Chinese.

There were a dozen or more of us seated around a huge round table with a lazy susan in the middle. The waitress distributed menus and drinks and my wife and I settled in to look at the offerings.

I said to the group: "So, how do you do it? Everyone orders something different and we all share?"

Silence and odd stares.

Ok, shrug.

Waitress arrives and goes around the table as each person gives their order:
"Sweet and sour pork."
"Sweet and sour pork."
"Sweet and sour pork."
"Sweet and sour pork."
"Sweet and sour pork."
"Sweet and sour pork."
"Sweet and sour pork."
...

My wife and I looked at each other and LOLed.

As far as the foodie stuff goes, ala Food TV, I don't get the hype about the following even though some are edible:

Froi Gras
Lobster
Bone Marrow
Sea Urchin
Kim Chee (and my wife's Korean)
Portabella Mushrooms
Duck Fat
Garlic Fries
Gnache
Bread Pudding
Gelato
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast

I've been a Lacto-Ovo-Pescatarian for over a decade now and I really don't miss meat either...not to say it's over rated...just don't miss it.
