Who would you want to see?

If you could get golf instruction from any of the big guys, who would it be?? Harmon, LeadBetter, Smith, Haney, Flick?? If not any of these guys who else would it be?

I would probably Pick Smith, (he is here in Michigan) and he seems like a decent guy.

 

Haney would be my second pick, all the stories I have read about him, he seems very simple in his teachings.

Manuel de la Torre..out of Milwaukee. I'm a big believer in his adaptation of Ernest Jone's "Swing the Club". It's just simple enough for me to get my mind around without cluttering up with a lot of swing thoughts.

Lead or Butch.. They consistently rank tops by other pros and I've heard it say they have "the eye", which I understand to mean they can watch someone swing and instantly understand how to improve it.

The best Big Name Teacher in my opinion is Jim Mclean. I have had the pleasure of working for Jim for three years. Jim is a great guy, and an incredible teacher. With that said there are lots of great teachers who are not very famous.

I've met Rick SMith on several occasions and he is a great guy, so RIck would be my choice

Hank Haney is my guy, simple method and if the Number one guy works with him then hanks the best.

Have worked with Jimmy Ballard for 17 years, would like to see him more often. That being said, I'd like to see Butch Harmon, he really produces.

If anyone is fron the SE Michigan area I highly advise Miles of Golf. I have been seeing Paul and Dave Kendall is supposed to be real good. A lot of sucess with their students. Michigan State Am womans last year was Paul's student.

My first teacher was Manuel de la Torre in the early 70's. Since then I have worked with Jim Flick and currently with Hank Haney on a two or three times a year tune up basis.

 

As far as method is concerned I am in Manuel's camp and would still be seeing him regularly if he were closer. I think what he teaches is timeless and the best method for all but the most gifted golfers.

 

Hank however is a swing genius with an uncanny ability to diagnose and correct problems even within the framework of someone elses method. He sometimes gets a bad rap for teaching the same thing to everyone but nothing could be further from the truth. I think he gets this reputation because he sees so many golfers who whip the club inside and then come over the top.

 

Another guy you may not have heard of around Fort Worth is John Rhodes, a lesser known teacher but really superb, and not nearly as pricey as Haney.

Brian Erickson, He is a pro at Legacy courses at craguns located in the brainerd lakes area of minnesota, Its a public course but it is still pretty pricey. Highly recommend going up there, most beutiful courses that I have ever played.

After reading his book, The Pro, especially, I would go see Butch. I say read the book and tell me otherwise. He has the heritage, the style, and the resume.

I'd agree with that. I'd also like to have a lesson with Chuck Quinton someday as the rotary swing he teaches seems very uncomplicated.

i'd say mac ogrady just for the stories and to pick his brain. i probably wouldnt change my swing much.

I'd say Rob Akins. He teaches at a course about 20 minutes away from me. Plus, from something I read he teaches a version of the S&T (which I recently switched to). Who knows, maybe I will be able to see him sometime in the near future. A little pricey though.

Mac O Grady all the way i believe he has the greatest insight about the swing and teachs the easiest and simplest form of the golf swing. :good:

Man, nobody picked Stan? I'd go with Stan Utley. I thought about doing it in real life but that would be one expensive lesson if I could even get time scheduled with him. If his personal teaching technique is anything like his books, I'd have a scratch short game in two lessons. :good:

I'm going to the Colorado Section PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit with De La Torre on Monday. REALLY looking forward to it.

 

If you get the chance, pick up his book, it's awesome. I saw it at Barnes and Noble the last time I was there.

Anyhoo.....I wouldn't waste my $$$ on any of the well known mainstream guys esp. with what they charge.

 

If someone gave me a "free pass" I'm really not sure who I would use it on. Probably Butch, Lead, or Haney. (just to see what they would do with me)
