Miura, Mizuno, Scratch blades? Which and why?

Looking to replace MP33s.

 

Wondering the advantages of each.

I have only ever played Mizuno so can't give any feedback on the others. I played Grads. MP60 and now MP64 which felt better than the 69's to me. Their price I think is very fair for the quality of club you get. I was thinking blades but just found the 64 misses to be much more playable than the 69.

All three are great irons. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those choices.
Mizuno will be the most bang for your buck
Scratch makes a good iron but unless you are going TD I would skip them
Miura's are awesome but pricey

Mizuno are jut as great as the other two but way less dough.

I would go Scratch but that's bc I have always got great service from them and I try to support American businesses

What is the diff btw buying td and non-td ?
Wouldn't buying Scratch TDs but you in a similar price range as Miuras?

if the op is close enough to tn. then take a trip and spend some money, Scratch td will be softer than mizzy you can't beat a td set of scratch unless your are on tour. I don't know of any company will take a heavy head and grind your irons to spec. Muira might touch the irons a little bit for easy, but I don't see them doing that for anybody else. Scratch is the only company that I know about that gives you that level of service for your irons.

Scratch used to have a demo program where they sent me a sb1 6 iron for cost of shipping and a small security deposit. It was head and shoulders better than the other blades I considered at the time, including the mp68s I had in the bag. Great feel, look and performance. It is a smaller and more demanding club, though, than the mzuno. I have since moved to a set of mp63s with a little softer shaft for some extra forgiveness and distance given some loss of swing speed, but am working some new shafts into the scratches to see if I can get them back in the bag. Love the feel of the mizzies, but I think the scratches have a softer and more solid feel.

Oh, and I have owned the mp68s and mp69s and preferred the sb1s over both.

No experience with the miuras.

I still regret the day I sold my full custom 2-PW MP-33. I'm trying to buy it back from this guy who calls himself my friend!

Back on topic ... I heard from someone knowledgeable that unless you're buying a Scratch TD set, you're better off getting the OTR Miura. But you can't go wrong with a Mizzy either!

Doc, I've been agreeing with you on multiple threads

Doc hit the nail on the head... the main point where I would pic Scratch TD (not retail) hands down over Miura and Mizuno is the the fact that they take heavy heads and hand grind them down to your desired SW. For me, I play my irons 1/2 to 3/4" under the new standard spec and have them @ D4 - D8 in the wedges. The fact that they grind down to SW makes a huge difference in maintaining a consistent playability over tip weighting to SW that you would have to do in Mizuno or Miura in most cases.

Another thing that is the MAJOR difference is the grind options for optimal turn interaction custom for YOUR course conditions and your type of swing. Both Miura and Mizunos are amazing, but the TD Scratch is on another level. Also, you can adjust the center of gravity of your TD set to further optimize your irons. The downside would be the wait time, but other than that, since my first set of TD SB1's, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, has come close - and I was one of Scratch's biggest skeptics.

I passed my TD set onto another recently, and went with a more forgiving set...

That said, Scratch will give you the custom of custom of custom options.

MP 33s are ten years old. Not much left of the sweet spot on the 7 thru pw.

Have been looking for a back up set of 33s but don't know which sellers to trust.

Buy a new set of Mizunos they are awesome. I have the MP30s from 2006. They are not worn out as of now but when they become unplayable I will certainly buy another set of Mizzys

If you can wait 4-8 weeks for a custom set of scratch irons then go for it, if not Mizzy's are pretty sweet.
