Need some help from the Palm Springs guys.

Hey guys, need your help and advice here.

 

Wife and daughter are attending a big Jazzercise convention at La Quinta the end of June and I'm going along to do the driving.

 

We're staying at the La Quinta Resort and I have golf included in the room rate. Now the problems.

 

The Stadium course is closed for aerificaiton while we're there and the Nicklause and Mountain courses will have just been done.

 

I'm scheduled on the Norman course Friday morning and the Dunes Saturday morning. Do you replay these, play the just punched courses, or go somewhere else. The bump in room rate was only $40 so I didn't feel the value was too bad even if just two of the courses are in good shape. Dissapointed however to miss the stadium.

 

If I play the punched courese, how bad will they be? Is it worth trying them. If I go elsewhere (fairly close), where do you recommend and what ballpark am I looking at for greens fees.

 

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I can't give you any info on what kind of shape the recently areated greens will be like. Depends on how big the aeration holes are, how much sand they use and how much time they have done for.

But....one round on the Dunes will be enough. It is better than any of the courses we have where I live but for that area it is just average. It plays through a canal and houses. Only a few of the holes are scenic. The scenery on the Mountain course is awesome and only a few holes play through housing. Bring a camera.

Silver Rock is close by and it is always a favorite for people visiting the area. Indian Wells Golf Resort is a bit further but still within 20 minutes and has two great courses. Green fees for Silver Rock and Indian Wells are usually over $100 but at that time of year they might be lower.

[sup]Thanks WCG. I've actually read most of the threads in the California section and have gotten a lot of info there. Mainly wanted to see if anyone had any information on the aeration and if those courses are worth playing after being punched. I've actually also had Silver Rock mentioned to me by one of the guys here who goes out there, so I'll do a little lookin into that one. Really don't want to spend $100 on green fees though.[/sup]

I think the Mountain course is a good option even if it is punched. There are some really great holes on the back there.

Also, IMO, the Nicklaus course is one of the worst in the whole area.

I loved the stadium course. Great Experience. Silver Rock is great as well. The Classic Club is windy but a nice track and where the Bob Hope Classic use to be held. You really can't go wrong with SilverRock. Awesome course.

yes add silverrock. If the weather is perfect then one week after punching should be ok. two weeks is fine if weather is good. what are the exact dates they are punching? Fyi overseeding is a bigger issue.

I don't know the exact dates, she just told me that the Mountain and Nicklaus courses were "just coming out of aerification".

Play mountain anyways...the back 9 is worth it for some of the views alone. 16 is a sweet par 3 from high on the rocks down to a small green. From the tee you can see the whole valley. Don't even sweat the punched greens when you have that view.

when it get's close they will post the dates on greenskeeper.org. check a few weeka ahead of time. they def don't do they all the same week.

Just played the [b]mountain course[/b] 2 days ago, greens were rolling just fine. Enjoyed the back nine. However, also played
[b]classic club[/b] in the afternoon, hardly any wind if you can believe it, and I thought it was outstanding. If I had to choose, I'd
go with the classic club, they give you 15 dollars toward food and drink and life is good...

I just played Silver Rock a couple of weeks ago. Great layout and probably one of the best in the area. You won't be dissappointed.
