1st Time at Myrtle Beach - Need Activity for Wife & Daughter While I Golf

I'm heading to Myrtle Beach in July for the first time with my wife and 13 year old daughter, who are not golfers. We are staying at the Dunes Village Resort, which is centrally located. Does anyone have any activities that their wife and kids enjoy doing when you're at the course? There is only so much beach time they can do, so I'm looking for other activities that they'll enjoy. We are staying five nights and I plan to play 2 or 3 times.

 

One thing I'd like to do is send them to a cooking class, as they both enjoy that. Does anyone have a recommendation for that? They're not huge into shopping, but that will probably be one thing they can do.......any recommendations on where they should go?

[*]As for shopping there are Broadway at the Beach which is close to downtown on route 17 bypass ,on the same highway but in North Myrtle Beach there is Barefoot Landing where there is specialty shops , good places to eat ect.. that also goes for Broadway on the Beach , i also thought that both barefoot landing and broadway at the beach had other activities besides shopping but you would have to explore that , on route 501 leaving Myrtle Beach , i would say about 15 minutes from town there is a large outlet mall there , as for other activities Sheppy mentioned some of the other things , going north on 17 bypass right before the merge point with 17 buisness , there was a Dolly Parton owned i believe , that had shows ect .. iv'e never been there and not sure if they offer daytime shows but i thought there were different shows , there were shows with people impersonating famous singers doing like a mini concert but they might have been only evening dinner shows only i am not sure when the summer activities start around the beach area but near downtown there was shops , a small amusement park , there was a water park with slides ect but it's been a few years since i was in the area so some things may have changed , you might want to look up Myrtle Beach chamber of commerce and maybe they can assist you with other area attractions , hope this helps and gives you a few ideas anyway

Occasionally there is a cooking class offered at the Williams-Sonoma located in Market Common (old air force base property with lots of shops and restaurants). Market Common would be a good place for them to go and shop- some different shops and not an outlet.

I have personally gone with my wife and a group for a cooking class/dinner at The Brentwood, a little north from where you are but I can vouch that the food and atmosphere are great. I'd normally offer to host you at my club (Dunes Club) but it will be closed for greens renovation. We will likely get reciprocal at Grande Dunes Members course, so if that would interest you and the timing is right I'd be glad to help.

Mike - I've read good things about Dunes Club and was disappointed when I saw it will be closed this summer. I have Grande Dunes on my short list though, so I'll let you know. Thanks for the offer. We'll be there July 13-18.

Dunes Club is sweet, played it once. Grand Dunes is very nice as well and a tough track when the wind is up.

\BrownM you are a lucky man living in the golf mecca!! I'm typically in myrtle 1-2 times a year to play and or family vacation. Only a 7 1/2 hour drive from Maryland so not too bad. I'll be down next month for a bachelor / golf party.

Don't worry about them... When the guys would get back from Myrtle golf, the condos would be empty and the girls wouldn't return for several hours.

There is so much stuff for non golfers to do, they can't get bored.

If you like Mexican go to Margaritas on restaurant row, good food and good pricing. Barefoot golf resort is right behind barefoot landing, they could drop you off and you can practice or play while they shop and mosey around, there are 4 fantastic courses on site with a nice range and a little pub thing at the range. It's quality golf.

If they have access to the car, Chareston is only about a 2 hr mabye 2.5 hr drive from central MB. I know that's a bit far, but its an option haha

Wonder Works Museum and Ripley's Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach.

Play golf early and you can be back at the hotel by noon, so they never notice you left.

There is so much shopping down there they wont have time to get bored. Along with what everyone else said, send them to Georgetown for the day. Its an old south town fishing town with waterfront dining and shopping.

Agreed.. Add in Market Common's and you can play all week and not hear a peep out of them.
