When you buy Adams are you really buying TM?

Clearly, since being taken over by TM, Adams equipment (in particular drivers and fws) bear a family resemblance to TM's own equipment. I was wondering to what extent Adams retains control over the design of their own products or is TM basically dictating exactly what Adams release? What about Titleist/Cobra, Srixon/Cleveland and Callaway/Odyssey?

The marketing strategy betwwen Titleist/Cobra seems to make sense to me: Titleist being fairly conservative and Cobra a bit flashy.

Callaway don't make putters anymore so they don't seem to conflict.

Srixon don't make wedges.

I would have thought that TM might want to give Adams a seperate identity. I know plenty of people who don't want to play white drivers and fairways.

I certainly don't have any stake in any of this, just curious to know how much autonomy these companies have.

Anyone know?

Or care? (cool)

Not as of the 2013 line its 100% adams.

I really hope that TM leaves Adams alone. I don't see it happening but only time will tell.

I will say one thing for TM, they are some marketing genius's!!!!!!!

I hope that TM and Adams stay seperate. From all the interviews it sounds like that will be the case. Puma/Cobra is going for a pretty specific market/demographic. i like their clothes, but shy away from the equipment.

When you buy Adams, you are buying Adams... but you are paying Taylor Made.
and actually paying Adidas......

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Isn't the OP's question asking if the current Adams line is an original Adams designed product or is it a TM driven product? It sure does look like a TM driver.

Seems to me that it may be the other way so far, excepting for the white paint jobs.TM products picking up Adams innovation eg. 'speed slots in fw woods etc.
CEO stated at time of purchase one of the reasons they purchased Adams was for their technology and innovation.
As for the TMag knockers I have to say that at least they support the whole market and don't discriminate against us leftys like some JDM's do

The Super XTD woods and hybrids, and the CB3 and CMB irons were the last truly great Adams gear. Everything after that had TM influence.

How else can one explain when the Super XTDs were taken off the market because they were longer than the RBZs last year? It would certainly explain why this year's follow up to the Super XTDs do not even come close in performance.

It's more like: when you're buying Taylormade, you're really buying Adams... They mostly bought Adams to avoid patent lawsuit.

BINGO..... Rocketballz-ier may not have made TM any money if they wouldn't have bought Adams and the cut design I believe...

Thats not even remotely close to the truth....Actually Acushnet applied for the original patent. This is the history of patent records, and no where is adams found.

If you go by what TMs people said when the deal closed, TM was going to be aimed toward the better player and Adams the more casual.

From that it would be easy to conclude that Adams is going the way of box sets and shovels, but there are a lot of innovations that start out in the SGI world and as they are refined and time passes they become accepted by better players (hybrids, for example).

I don't think we will be able to really judge for another few years what the true TM/Adams situation will be. The current product line, maybe even the next one, was already on the board when the buyout happened. Changing the color scheme on the crown is a relatively easy thing to do.

One way or another, you are supporting TM, which would be my main reason for not buying Adams clubs anymore.
I love TM and Adams equipment. Suits my game just fine, so glad to support both. Never have understood why people hate a particular brand because of marketing or some outside influence. I don't hate any brand and would buy from any if I felt their equipment benefited me. Marketing is just marketing. I pay little attention to it.

Some of the early run XTD heads had a problem with the toe weight coming off. The vendor Adams was using couldn't fix it so that vendor was canned and a new vendor was used. This caused a big hold up in production. It had NOTHING to do with TM.

This years Super LS is actually hotter than the last years XTD. It is a little less spinning so it might not be as long as the XTD for all but for most it is longer. If the Super Ls is shorter for you then you might have benefited from the higher spinning XTD head

No, not even close. I work for a huge software company (about 33 companies combined now). Our R&Ds are totally seperate. Actually, the only complaint we get from our customers is that we do not act/communicate as one company.....and, we never will.....FYI, out of the 33 combined, 2 were massive (#1 and #2 in the industry worldwide)
