It's more like: when you're buying Taylormade, you're really buying Adams... They mostly bought Adams to avoid patent lawsuit.

BINGO..... Rocketballz-ier may not have made TM any money if they wouldn't have bought Adams and the cut design I believe...

Thats not even remotely close to the truth....Actually Acushnet applied for the original patent. This is the history of patent records, and no where is adams found.

Most of the ads i've seen for Adams have been about hybrids. That seems to be the strategy, be #1 in hybrids with Adams and #1 in everything else with TMAG.

At the end of the day i don't believe it when they said they want to drive both complete product lines, you can't do that without stepping on toes, i'm sure TM does not want Adams drivers cutting into their share because their TM driver count is paramount to their business. Car companies all the time will avoid making cheaper models as fast or powerful as a more expensive version in their lineup (think cayman vs 911) because it dilutes the brand

So i'm interested to see what happens to Adams long term

But yes if you buy Adams you are buying Adidas

From what I've seen and heard from some well placed folks, the TM influence is there in Adams, in the view that the R&D folks have been able to work out some long standing issues with excess spin on their woods. Their woods have vastly improved. And we all know the parent company took some of the technology and incorporated it into their own items, but not all, in order to continue to separate the brands. The QC issues simply arose from them wanting to please their parent company TOO much and they got a little shoddy last year. Those issues have been worked out as well with TM brass assuring them that they need to go back to doing what they were doing as not to hurt themselves or TM.

Adams marketshare is still on the LPGA and especially (of course) the Champions Tour, though you do have some PGAers playing Adams such as Garrigus and Badds. Their bread and butter is still, and always will be the hybrid. Their stranglehold is as tight as it's ever been and doesn't look to be changing anytime soon. There appears to be a good relationship once the transition period ended and the Adams guys aren't running scared like they were last year.

At the end of the day, more often then not when a company acquires another, it is hard to manage them separately. Adams does very well on the LPGA and champions tour but i'm not sure how that translates to sales long term. My local golftowns don't really stock Adams right now and i can't remember the last time they didn't have any new Adams stuff, they do have very large TMAG banners that take up entire rows though. Small sample size sure, obviously. But at some point there are decisions that will need to be made with ad dollars and focus

It hasn't been very long. In my industry i can think of an example similar to this one (Large market leading company buys a smaller competitor and vows to keep them seperate), and it took 4-5 years but eventually they just gave up and figured they'd be more efficient merging and making cuts. There have actually been a lot of acquisitions in my industry the last decade (not surprising given the economy) and i can't think of any that kept the model TM/Adams are doing long term. It's not like Puma/Cobra which compliment each other. These are competing companies

obviously time will tell but i'd bet Adams doesn't exist within 5 years, or thereabouts
