Patrick Reed moved to Callaway midseason

Anybody know the scoop on Patrick, heard he had switched to a complete Callaway bag after playing Nike all year. Correct me if I am wrong, but i think he went to q school with something beside Nike?

I had the opportunity to play with Patrick in a pro-am this year. He said he has played Nike for several years including his jr days. I will say that during our round he was complaining about the new Nike ball.

Whatever he is playing this week is working, -3 thru 1 round.

If an equipment change helps him out mentally I hope he finds success.

Saw him at the US Open qualifier in Houston last week and he was Nike head to toe and all the way through the bag. As for the ball he played, I didn't see that. His caddy was worth a second look as well, who ever she is.

she is his wife... i actually know her from high school 10 plus years ago.... meet up with them at the shell houston open this year .... playing really good this week with the new callaway stuff!!!!!!

What makes him a perfect fit for Nike and not Callaway? Callaway has better equipment and a better ball. His play is pphenomenal this week. He just can't make a putt today. He is one hell of a player Nike or Callaway..

Hey...mapeacock here on Wrx is one of my buddies from my course. I met up with him at the Shell and we followed Reed. And yea...that bag is about as big as she is. Shes a trooper though..has no problem what so ever carrying the bag.

Do we know what's in the rest of his bag? His driver appears to have a standard hosel. A Razr Hawk Tour? He's a bomber for sure. Hex Black Tour? Augusta State will have some future talent from their pools on the PGA Tour in the years to come.

He's using the Nike VR Pro Ltd driver. Was using the covert with Nike then as soon as he moved to Callaway switched back to the Ltd.

Heard that he did not like the Nike ball(went thru several versions) and wanted to play the ball that Tiger/Rory was playing. Nike would not allow him to play it, so nike and reed agreed to part ways.

Looks like the Cally deal is working out the way he has been playing the last couple of weeks.

Seriously? One would think they'd do whatever they could to appease their [s]players[/s] athletes and have them play their best golf. Now, if they knew the ball wouldn't fit him and he wanted to play it for status reasons, then I can see a disagreement, but Nike not allowing a player to play a certain ball is ludicrous to me.

It all depends on the contract you sign, but Nike Golf asks for quite a lot. I believe Driver, Irons, Glove-Ball, Headwear, Footwear, Apparel. Some may include 12-13 club contracts for full compensation.

There are very few who can call their own shots and play what they like and still reap the rewards of a huge contract, Tiger, Rory, and Phil.

I believe a similar situation happened with Jason Gore who could not find a Nike golf ball that he could play. He eventually left for Cobra so that he could play a Pro V1.

Right, that makes sense, but the post I was replying to said he wanted to play a Nike ball, albeit the one Tiger/Rory were/are playing. It's not like he was asking to play the Top Flight Gamer or something, it was a Nike ball.

Yeah, but Reed has a lot of upside, he nearly qualified for full status on sponsors exemptions and qualifiers last year. He has a ton of game, he's a rookie on tour. Give him what he needs he feels to be successful
