Wishon 929HS vs. 949MC 4 wood

WpgMike

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get a 4 wood to fill the gap between my driver and 3 hybrid. Can someone compare the head designs of these two clubs for me and it's affect on the flight? I know they are both high COR woods and the 929 is slightly shallower with a recessed area in the sole. I'm wondering what those features mean in terms of performance difference between the two.

Thanks in advace.

Mike

I've never used the clubs in question, but a big Wishon fan regardless.

Shallow means high launch. Have to pay attention out of rough since you can go under the ball.

I have a pair of 949's. Amazing fairway woods. Probably the longest of the hi-COR designs. Fairly traditional profile that sits fairly square at address.

If you are looking for a club to use off the tee and fairway, this is the one. The 949's are easy to hit off the deck, at least for me, and they LAUNCH off a tee.

No experience with the 929's.

I have experience with both. 949 is outstanding, a little bigger and easier off the tee for most. The 929 is very shallow and easier off the deck for most. Just amazing fairway woods either way.

929 is a little higher launch, little less hot in terms of COR. In terms of shallowness, it's a mm difference between the two, so not much. I'm bagging the 949 4 wood right now. To me it's the better all around choice from the tee and the fairway. Paired with an AXE fw shaft it launches decently high. The 929 is in order if you struggle with elevating fairway woods. I have a 929 3 hybrid behind the 949 in my bag. It's a awesome hybrid. I like the higher launch there so I'm not bringing the ball in too hot.

Thanks for the responses so far - very helpful. I would definitely be using this off the tee as well as the fairway, and I don't have issues getting the ball up in the air. In fact, my Titleist 910 5 wood paired with a stock Kai'li in Regular is going a little too high (I have no numbers yet to back this up, just my eye), which is why I'm looking at a 4 wood.

I would probably pair this up with an Xcalibur 6 in stiff as that's what I have in my 919thi driver and I love it.

I have the 775hs 3 and 4 hybrids in the bag which are the equivalent to the 929hs fairways. However, the responses so far have me leaning towards the 949mc.

Sounds like the 949 is right up your alley

I agree the 949 is probably better for you. I know the specs state it's only 1mm difference in height but it looks like more than that standing over the ball. And the face does seem a little hotter. Since you have no trouble getting the ball up, I'd lean to the 949 unless you need to change lie a great deal, then the 929 has the easy bend hosel.

I agree with all of this as well. I'm on my 2nd month with two 949's, and I am more than impressed with them. I enjoy hitting them both off the tee and the deck and get great results from both areas. I loved my old Taylormade 200's, but the 949's are excellent heads.
