Me, I would phone the pro shop and say no longer a half and would settle after 9. And of course stop at 9 for the other guy to go in. For the private club, prob just good enough to say that Joe Blow is now sharing?

A couple of weeks ago I was injured and at almost the last minute before we teed off I decided to ride with one of my foursome who had a power cart. I asked if the pro shop could store my cart as I was riding with Peter ( we are part of a semi-regular group at this muni- i.e. well known at the shop). No prob.

Only after we teed off did I find out that my partner had only to pay half a cart fee as a single, and for pace of play we decided to check in after 9 to pay. After 9 I popped in to pay my half. The proshop waived it, and I just paid my paying partner half of what he paid. Even if perhaps rarely the course gives a free ride (bad pun intended) the guy that paid for even just half a cart still needs to be reimbursed by the guy sharing IMO.

That's funny, because I had a similar situation at the club I used to be a cart boy at. We had a guy who was notorious for showing up around 5:00pm and pay the 9 hole rate then play a full 18. He'll finish up late, usually after the shop closes, and would always be the last cart I'd be waiting on. Spoke to the pros the next day and they were well aware of this member. They told me that they charge his account for a full 18 each time.

Every club has at least one of these guys. Initially you're (selfishly) annoyed because if it weren't for them you could have left an hour ago, but after you get over that feeling you realize what a sad p.o.s. this person is because they're willing to lie over and over just to save a couple bucks on cart fees.

And of course when they are finished they complain that they can't come in and post!** Dude, it's 10 p.m. I really need to go home so I can come back in 8 hours.

Heh, saw this last week in my round. I was playing as a single, as was another guy. We both had our own carts. We were paired with a twosome that were walking. Around hole 14 one of the walkers is getting tired. He asks the other single if he could hitch a ride and pulled his push cart along side the cart. The guy didn't seem to mind. The walkers were good company so I wouldn't have minded either.

There's one course that has a sharp uphill walk on the 9th. If someone offers, I'll take the ride with my pushcart in tow... but that's the only hole.
