Hmm...where are all of those who claimed Tiger Woods was "over-dramatizing" the elbow injury last week at the U.S. Open? Haven't heard a peep from them.
Well...he did win the US Open on one leg...surprised that he couldn't pull of Merion with one arm. VERY DISAPPOINTED! This is not the legendary Tiger Woods that I was used to watching.

Wow...ok. As long as he's good for the British I don't care. But "rest" and "treatment" usually means no practice either, so he might not be working on that short game that needs improvement.
I'm sure he'll be rolling thousands of putts every day with just that right hand. This might be good for him.
I really like this observation. The stats were that he dominated putting for the first half of the year, then, he starts missing. Of course, the mental part comes into the conversation here.

Not surprised by his performance at the US Open and the obvious discomfort he displayed.

I'm still waiting for someone to either come into this thread and talk about it all being an excuse for his poor play or a sign that his body can't handle golf anymore and that he is finish.
seriously, for how good shape he is in, it seems like he gets injured rather easily - 10 years from now i wouldn't be suprised if he hangs it up.

We all face injury...especially as we get older. Brandt injured his wrist earlier this year. Wasn't Dustin injured last year? Phil injured his wrist practicing out of US Open rough a few years back.It happens...can't say it's more systemic unless it's starting to become a trend. If it were his knee...then I'd say we have cause for concern.

The only thing that comes into the conversation is media and fan overreaction. Dude has won 50% of his stroke play events on tour this year. FIFTY! FIVE @#$%ing ZERO %. That's ridiculous. And not "The Travellers" either. A Players, a WGC, API, Torrey.

I don't think that rolling hundreds of putts is going to do anything.

His setup is good, posture is good, stroke is pure. He just read the greens badly at Merion. One week, and it's time to move on and hope he'll read them better at Muirfield.
It wasn't just his reads, it was the speed of the greens as well. Also, it was his distance control with his irons as well. I'm sure his elbow wasn't helping matters any however.

Speed is included when I say "reads," but you're not the first to respond to me with that. Am I wrong in saying that? I always considered reading the speed to be part of "reading the putt," along with the line.

Oh great so I guess you can say he isn't going to win the British Open then with limited practice and no competitive events until then.
Hopefully he can prove me wrong but it looks like he's going to have win the PGA to break that drought.

Dont fret...Hes going to win the PGA.

I always thought they were independent. You line up the putt, but you have to know what the greens are doing before you roll the putt.

teebs -
love your posts, but gotta disagree here. speed and read are interdependent. i'm reminded of the brad faxon (?) drill that illustrates this. during practice, he'd play 3 different lines, with different speeds into the cup (and probably make them all).

Tiger should at least show up and work the announcers booth. The primary charitable beneficiary of the tournament is his foundation and he is considered to be the host. Jack spends a lot of time in the booth at his tournament.

Regarding his injuries, he's in as good of shape as anyone out there but the violent nature of his swing puts a lot of stress on his joints. I'm sure he would play the AT&T if he could. The bigger problem could be how much he can practice before Muirfield.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing that. If they can work something out where the booth isn't asking dumb, crappy questions to Tiger "the player", and instead let Tiger "the person" comment on the golf, the players playing, and the Foundation, I think that could be something that many people might enjoy, fan or no fan.

I agree. Jack gets in the booth and talks about the golf and what the players are facing. It would be fascinating to see Tiger spend a few hours commenting on the play - maybe we could finally get an insight to How He Thinks vs What others think when playing in a tournament. I doubt that he'll do it just because he would truly believe that by giving his insight he would be providing an advantage to his competitors.

I'd say his career record shows how dead wrong that swing has been for him. Or you can say his record this year is nearly as much proof as how dead wrong it is. God, you're full of great points.

Every good golfer has a "slot". When you can get the club in the correct position then you can swing as hard as you want and won't look violent. When out of position - that gets you out of sync and no matter how easy you intend to swing the club - it looks violent and thrashing.

Tiger has a slot - he just seems to not be able to get into it with a lot of consistency. It's amazing how inconsistent his posture and distance from the ball are week-to-week.

Personally I think his swing is the best when he's standing really close to the ball....but then seems to lose some of his ability to work the ball both ways.

Woods' swing now looks more smooth and less violent than ever. His Butch swing was beautiful but when he went after one it was as violent a swing as we've seen on the Tour in a while. Outside of trying to lash something out of heavy rough (everyone is violent when doing that), can you please show me where his swing this year is violent?
