Going to a PGA Golf Superstore

Never been to one and plan on going to the one that opened in New Jersey. Are they any different than a Golfsmith or Golf Galaxy? Prices the same? Anything I should look for that they carry that most stores don't? I've read they carry the Wilson FG Tour blemish balls on the cheap. I might consider those. Do they sell preowned clubs?

It's really just Golfsmith times 10. I went to the one in N. Myrtle Beach about two weeks ago. For the most part they don't really have anything that Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, etc, don't have, they just have 10-20 times as much of it. Most prices are set my the manufacturer so they will be the same. Actually they had R1 drivers for $350 while they are $300 pretty much everywhere else.

I think the one thing you mentioned that they do have it pre-owned. The PGA store at NMB has a ton of pre-owned stuff.

I used to love going in there but in the last few years it's just been kinda boring.

As stated above, it's mainly the same stuff, but in a bigger and brighter store. They might have a few different house brands for apparel, but for the most part they'll carry the same clothes, clubs, balls, and at the same prices. What's nice about them though is they have more hitting bays than the others and seemingly better fitters that understand how to interpret launch monitor data. Not that others don't, but the guys I watched and listened to knew their stuff. Another nice aspect they have is their member program. Sure, it's costly at $100 for 365 days, but it includes free clubmaking services and use of their bays whenever you want. So if you do a lot of clubmaking work it pays for itself pretty quickly.

Does anyone know about the accuracy of their sims? I am about an hour+ from the one in NJ but would consider paying the $100 if it meant I could go there a few times during the year and get trackman level readings to figure out my distances and such. Also, it would be good practice with the driver to figure out at which point swinging harder reaches the point of diminished returns in terms of clubhead speed. If the bays are accurate then $100 for the year is well worth it!

Agree with Apps32. It's a large golf store with the same pricing as other places.

I was in one here in Plano, Tx this weekend. They had deals GG and GSmith didn't have, and they have everything under the sun.

Their demo sale prices are awesome as well, they will price match online retailers as well.

I think they are a little more accurate than the GS sims I have seen, but they are the same as the GG sims. With that said they are not even close to trackman so I wouldn't go in with that expectation.

PGA Tour Superstore is better than the golfsmith extremes. PGA SS is like a giant playground - large putting green, short game/sand areas, and lots of hitting bays. The Golfsmith xtreme has as many bays, but its still a smaller store and more of a traditional retail experience.

I'm assuming you always head to the one in Kennesaw as well?

I find the service at the PGA SS to be excellent. The store in Kennesaw, GA has some very friendly and helpful employees. Selection is great and store is set up well. I like much better than Golfsmith.

Usually. Maybe once every two weeks, unless im hot after something. I'm still pretty much a beginner, but I like tinkering with equipment - rehabilitating old heads, sprucing up old irons with new shafts and grips, finding deals on cheap drivers with awesome shafts, etc. The Kennesaw one is a few exits up form my office on Cobb Parkway (cumberland area) so I hit that one the most. On the weekends its harder for me to get up there because I live in midtown (Va-Highlands). I am in the Golfsmith Xtreme like 2-3 times a week with my eye out for steals - so much so that the staff recognizes me. I was just over there a few minutes ago and spied a brand new Black r1 for 244 if you are interested! Looks like whoever traded it in literally hit it one time. I was tempted but I've purchased enough stuff already thanks to the Kennesaw GS closing so i put it back.

The demo sale I saw isn't that extensive in NJ. A lot of the sims are locked and it can be hit or miss getting them to open them without paying. You can wait 30min + during after work hours to get in. It is not open Sunday. Used clubs just look really used. Wide array of demos to hit.

Overall, better than GS/GG but a lot of the above could just be NJ specific. They generally have a larger selection of clubs, bags, clothing, balls, shoes. If you like to see and touch before you buy its great.

Crazy, I've never been to the Golfsmith Extreme, I'll have to check it out. I'm a lefty and I can't even hit my R11S, so not even going to touch the R1. I'm very much so a beginner as well, just trying to find my niche.

I just enjoy going in the bays and trying out new clubs, that's how I found my most current set of irons plus lefties sometimes can stumble into killer deals.

you know it is not nice to tell all the other kids you are going to the candy store!

We have one down here in Naples, I made the trip once, ditto to the comments, the place is huge, but nothing that you do not get to see at any other retailer that you have been too.

Enjoy but do not come home with a headache!

Being from queens and doing most of my shopping at gs and gg by Roosevelt field, walking into pgass in paramus was a breath of fresh air. I literally felt like a kid in a candy store. The workers make it extremely easy to spend money there.

Selection, customer service, and fitting Bays are second to none in terms of big box stores. Prices are comparable to Gs and gg.

Have fun
