Yup. Fairly straightforward holes, but there is absolutely no room for error off the tee. With the stepped design, most holes have only a few yards of rough. Miss that and you're toast. Add in some wind and it's a heck of a test.

Lol. The course opened last Thursday. I fished 5 Pro V1s, and one TP5 out of the water today. Gotta love high-end courses.

I played a course in California, San Juan Oaks from memory, and my ball went into a ravine or gulch across the fairway where there was a Beware Rattlesnake sign. Undeterred i went looking for my ball - a hopeless but amazing sight awaited me, hundreds of brand new Pro VIs lying about waiting for me to collect them. I filled my boots and did not buy a new ball for a couple of years.

then come stack balls in Cali and travel to AZ. 

 

My club, Black Gold is like the one you mentioned above.  Lotta good quality stray balls but gotta look out for rattlers.  Sometimes you deposit more and other times you withdraw more.

My record is 36 Pro V1s at La Cantera Resort (Palmer) in San Antonio. As part of the green fee they gave players a sleeve of PV1s. I was playing as a single behind five foursomes in an afternoon outing, and I was going nowhere. There were balls galore, but most of them were buried in the thorny scrub lining the course. My handy ball retriever allowed to snatch three dozen. Quite the haul.

It was my second time playing it. I thought it was decent, but there are a large number of meh holes. The 7th, 9th, 16th, 17th, and 18th are fun. A few too many homes on the course for my liking. It was flatter than I recall the first time. Overall it's a solid course, and if I lived closer I'd probably play it on a regular basis. However, I think there are better courses in the valley for similar greens fees, e.g. Verrado.

For ten years I attended an annual business meeting in Vegas in February. The meetings were moved to Scottsdale for the next five years and then to Rancho Palos Verde in 2019, which was the last one due to Covid. I always took vacation before and or after those meetings to play some golf. The last trip was 2 years ago this week. Here are a few pix form the course at the site of the meetings, Tarrenea Resort, Rancho Palos Verde CA. It's a nine hole par three course, just up the road from Trump LA. I was the first one out the morning after the meetings ended.

Last  time I played Legacy was on the day the Eagles won the super bowl.  It was part of the annual business meetings I mentioned in the above Terranea post. I was playing with a woman work colleague who was an Eagles fanatic, wearing an Eagles jersey and hat. We had the game playing  as we finished the round and made it to the pub on site at the resort by the middle of the second quarter. The place was a mad house and a load of fun.

Excellent course. It doesn't feel like an Arizona course. More like Florida or the Carolinas. Generous fairways, and good use of bunkering.

I played Ak Chin and Raven when I was there over the holidays.  Being from Colorado Raven seemed "normal" to some extent LOL. Ak Chin I think might be the best in the area....imho.  Honestly I should of played a desert course but It was location and timing plus not wanting the wife to be upset as I tossed it in the day we landed.  I would agree on your statement. I thought it was great too overall.

I work there, it’s a great golf course.  I have been playing there since the Friday before Thanksgiving.  Now open to general public it’s taking a beating.

From my solo Bandon trip in mid-Feb. Played in damn near a hurricane the first day on Sheep Ranch and then it was good weather the rest of the way. An awesome trips as always!

Yesterday I played Celebration in Orlando for the first time in 10 years. It was better than I remembered it. Lots of water like most Florida courses.  It's a collaboration design by RTJ Sr and RTJ Jr.
