Just got back from a week at Pinehurst.  Played No. 1, No. 2 (twice), No. 4, No. 7, and Tobacco Road.  What a great trip.  20 guys.  6 days.  Complete mayhem.  This is just barely touching the surface of the pics from the week.

Pinehurst No. 2.  This was Wednesday, May 18.  A bucket list day spent with bucket list friends.  A guy couldn't ask for much more.  Seemed like we were out there for an hour.  Perfect day.

Saturday evening.  Flushed a 7 iron approach to about 12 feet with the crowd at the Deuce making all kinds of noise.  What a great feeling to get a cheer from the crowd.


If you get to Pinehurst and want a great caddy, ask for either Troy Neas (on the left) or Nick Boulanger (on the right).  I had Nick on the bag for four days.  Kid never missed a read.  Always told me when my plan was a mistake.  Quiet, confident, and just damned fun to hang around with.  Got to walk along with Troy on three days and he was also amazing.


Shots around the clubhouse.  I got up early every morning to watch the sunrise over #18 on the No. 2 course.  Really nice to have that whole place to yourself with just the grounds crew moving around.  Quiet and peaceful.

Great pics of Colbert Hills! I played in late March which was just prior to the spring "green up"! Even so, I thought the layout, views and overall experience was top notch. I've played some excellent college courses so with that perspective Colbert Hills is my second favorite behind Taconic at Williams College. For $60 it was an absolute steal despite the offseason conditions. I am considering Kansas State for my Ph.D. so if I end up moving to Manhattan I will definitely join.

I wasn't sure if you were serious or not, and didn't want to come off as snarky. It was an amazing experience (I had not been in over a decade). Hopefully if I get the chance to go back again I don't find myself hitting 30 (yes, I counted) bunker shots again. Shame, as I had one of the best days driving the ball of my life, I think I only missed 4 fairways... but I couldn't hit even a short iron to save my life. Turns out missing by 3-4 yards there has disastrous results.

That's my home course!!

 

It was a big deal when it opened back in 2000, even with the minimal elevation change they had to move a lot of dirt to make a pancake flat farm field into what it is today.  You caught it after a record wet spring too, it's generally in much drier and better condition.  It's not terrible right now but much wetter than normal.

 

I'm glad you enjoyed your round out there!

Funny - I saw the picture and immediately thought it looked just like my home course. Lo and behold - Donald Ross, so that checks out.

Played TPC Deere Run 6/9/22

Great layout! Loved the elevation changes and blend of holes. The $120 greens fee was well worth it!

Thunderhawk Golf Club...6/10/22

Beach Lake, IL

The course was well kept and rather empty on the Friday afternoon I played it which made for a relaxing round. With that said, outside of a couple of cool, rather tough par 3s and an interesting short par 4 I found the course to be rather bland....
