My top 5, so far... It was really hard to pick five.  And there is always room to add new great courses.

 

Cabot Cliffs.  Best single day of golf I've ever had in 40+ years of playing.

 

Pinehurst No. 4.  I'd play this course every day and get on my knees and thank God for the opportunity.  I love this course.

 

Sand Hollow Championship Course.  It's more than just the three cliff holes.  Such a fun course.

 

Tobacco Road.  May be the most "fun" course I've ever played.  Strantz was a genius.

 

We-Ko-Pa Saguaro.  Just loved this course.

I played Rockland Lake yesterday for the first time in more than ten years. It was the first course I ever played. Located just 25 miles north of NYC it's a great bargain at $32 to walk. It is carved out of a forest, but the fairways are generous. It's scenic and very hilly. Hard to get a flat lie.

We played Old Toccoa Farm this past weekend. The weekend greens fees are up to $180 which is pretty steep IMO.

 

Fortunately they are conscious of trying to space the groups out so you can play at a reasonable pace. OTOH there was some rain the night before we played so the carts were restricted to the paths and a lot of the bunkers were washed out and borderline unplayable.

Pictures cannot convey the depth and true beauty of the place.  Relatively narrow fairways and "hide & seek" greens with tricky pin placements; as you may see, I took many hole views which are hidden from tee boxes or even from fairways.  Thus, I played very conservatively since I do not know the course layout and ended up playing well.  The course condition was very well kept.  I would not mind going back there.

I played the nine hole Skyway Golf Course a few days ago, located in an industrial area in Jersey City across the Hudson River from Manhattan overlooking the Pulaski Skyway. It's a surprisingly excellent course. Interesting holes, firm conditions, good greens, elevation changes,  excellent condition cool views and an easy walk.

I was there last year and enjoyed very much except rental clubs need big improvements.   The course looks way lushier.

I was fortunate enough to get to play Wakonda in Des Moines recently and what a terrific experience that was.  The course just completed a major renovation and opened up earlier this summer.
