I am going to have to make a late winter, early spring trip down to 2-3 of the RTj Trail courses. I have been putting it off too long now.

 

I haven't been to the other sites but I can definitely recommend both courses The Shoals. Typically in really good shape year round, I played in February this year and they were looking pretty good. If you're driving they're only about 2.5 hours from Birmingham and the ones down there.

I love the Shoals. Have played it on three seperate trips. My favorites are Ross Bridge and Farmlinks (not part of trail but totally worth playing if you are already down there). Have never made it down to Capitol Hill but have heard great things.

Atunyote at Turning Stone

Did you feel Atunyote was worth they money? It's definitely the "crown jewel" at Turning Stone.

 

I played Shenendoah in May,and while nice, I wasn't overly impressed.

I'm not sure how much it is individually, we did it as part of the championship package. It's certainly the best of the three and the only time I've experienced a practice setup as nice was at a TPC course. Play was very quick as not many seem too get out there. I'd play it again, which is about the best recommendation I could give.

^^^^^ I played it back in July, such an awesome golf course. That is #17, par 3. I escaped with a bogey after careening off some rocks. Fun hole! Me putting out on 18!

Eagles Bluff in Clarksville, MO. Course needs some love but the bones of a great golf course are in place. This is about 30 minutes north of St. Charles, MO on US 61.

Crail Balcomie Even more quirky than North Berwick the toughest 5900 yard course i have played even in moderate conditions

Carnoustie. I had two rounds in the 80's the entire trip. 81 or 82 at Gullane no 1 in the worst weather 30mph wind and a couple 15 min downpours then Carnoustie in great weather 82. Carnoustie definitely lives up to its nickname Carnasty, was not my best ball striking day and worst caddie of the trip. Dead wrong on so many reads I mean not just off by a little he would say left edge for a small left to right break into the cup and the ball would break left away from the hole. Cost me at least 1-2 putts.

Did fairly well bunkerwise about 50% save only one fairway bunker the entire trip. This was my approach on 17 worst stymie in a bunker the whole trip hit a great hybrid in there but needed 1 yard more to the right. Note the closest white thing is actually a mushroom my by is up near the face

 

Played Jubilee that afternoon will save the pics for my big thread but I did get this walking back to town to get a cab. While Carnoustie was my worst round score wise Jubilee was my best score to par at +5 77

Now for the old course. Place is just special it is hard to describe

Tee shot on 1 4:20pm tee time so a fair amount of people wandering around including my parents watching me tee off. Wind was into and left to right coming from about 11 oclock. Solid contact best tee ball of the group. I played with a member I had been twitter friends with for a few years and we allowed 2 guys from the queue to join us both Americans they had been there since 3:30am

Hit the green 6 iron from 130 lol that was a punch 9 iron in no wind over there two putt par on one to calm the nerves a bit.

10 was playing so tough 160 wind from 10 oclock pured a 5 iron hit the bunker short made bogey. This green is impossible. One of our group 5 putted from a GIR hit top left of green

 

Hell Bunker

I had full intentions of playing a little fade over the green building on the road hole but fully chickened out and hit a pull straight at the left rough lol. Scooted a hybrid up from 210 just short right hit a great bump and run pw up the massive false front to 5 feet and lipped out the put for par :( The wind had gone to pretty much nothing when we hit about 12 or 13. Peak was 15-20

 

At the end of 72 holes in 2 days I did not have a lot of steam left hit a reasonable drive right center fairway to the road. Decent little punch 9 to about 25 feet passed the pin for a GIR then proceeded to 3 putt ARGH. Ended up shooting 78 on the old but had two bad holes on 6/7 one double and a bad bogey. This round had potential to be pretty low but I was gassed.

Played Ferry Point in the Bronx yesterday, the NYC Muni that bears the President's name and costs $260 to play (including cart) for non-NYC residents. It's a Nicklaus design and quite good. They had just aerated greens and fairways so putting was impaired (and they didn't give a discount) and it was cart path only. It's one of the best muni layouts in the NY metro area, but at that green fee I probably won't return. However it does provide some cool veiws of the NY skyline, the Whitestone bridge and the Throgs Neck Bridge.
