So Phil Played the Hex Chrome + in the British

I don't care about ball price... Been happy playing Hex Black tour and intermittent 2013 ProV1X, but decided to see what the blubber is about. I put a Hex Chrome + in play last week. Full disclosure... aside from not knowing Phil was playing the ball, its a 4 piece ball that feels similar to Hex Black tour 5 piece. Stand out differences were higher pitched sound off club heads, a smidgen harder feel. At times it felt as though it was flying off the club face too fast, and maybe a yard or two longer. To me, the yard or two means nothing. What gets my attention, and not in a good way, is it feels harder then HBlack tour & hot off the face of my wedges.

Long time Titleist user. Always took advantage of their customized promo (buy 3 dozen, get 1 dozen free), but typically pay $48.95 during the rest of the year.

Played the Chrome + on Saturday for the first time on the recommendation of a friend.

Felt great (I would say between a ProV1 and a ProV1X), nice spin (1 hop and stop), and excellent on chip shots.

Best of all, $29.95 saves almost $20 over the Titleist, for just as good a ball.

Didn't notice any issues on durability.

I work part-time at a course and our cost on a dozen ProV1 is $37. Of course, I'm sure larger retailers pay way less than that since they buy in bulk.

$37 is a reasonable cost. But at the current sales price of $29 I would still buy the Chrome +

I saw firsthand how they make Phil's private stock in fact I have a sleeve of his hex black tour's. I also met Phil while he stopped in the Ely Callaway performance center to grab a quick dozen for a round up the street (Great guy). Anyway the main difference between what he typically plays and retail is they make his ball a little lower in spin because of his swing speed and AOA. The same way they tweak drivers with loft/hotmelt to suit his specific swing.

If you really, truly want a "Tour" type golf ball and you really, truly want a low price on brand-new balls I can't imagine why you'd play a Pro V1...or a Chrome+...or anything else other than those $15 boxes of FG Tour blems. It always befuddles me how you guys will get all incredulous about "How can someone pay 45 bucks for a Pro V1 when a Chrome+ is just as good at two-thirds the price?" when the Chrome+ is in fact twice as expensive as an FG Tour blem.

It's kind of like George Carlin's observation that anyone driving faster than me is an IDIOT and anyone driving slower than me is a MORON.

Tried the FG Tour's and didn't care for them so why would I play the blems? I find the ball that has the right balance of price and performance then hunt like a dog for the best price. A lot of times I use shop credit that I win in tourneys.

Me too. I like the FG Tour fine but slightly prefer Pro V1. So I just grab every logo overrun or whatever that I can find for $30/dozen even if it is twice as much as FG Tour.

Funny, the FG-Tour Blems are my ball of choice in 2013, yes they are dirt cheap which is awesome but they are so soft and spin perfectly for me. I also really enjoy the Hex Black which is a little more clicky than the FG's but great performance as well however there's such a disparity in price it's hard to justify. Both balls have similar durability which is just ok, the new ProV1 and Bridgstone B330s far superior in this department...BB

the last commercial i seen for the callaway balls had a disclaimer at the end that said phil plays a proto type hex chrome in competition so im sure its not the same ball available to us on the big box shelves

I didn't find feel harder than HBT, so must just be what one is used to. If anything, a tad softer with C+
